Dud~Ugh

Here's this week's dud. He's bacckkkkk. Or Son of _____ is back. He mowed my flowers in the front garden down. See?

What the little dude doesn't yet know is that this year I have a gun. Sure it runs on pellets and blasts of air, but if I ever catch him, he's so going to get it.

  1. But he looks so innocent...and cute! heehee! We have squirrels going crazy trying to get into our squirrel proof feeders! May need to borrow that gun! lol ♥

  2. go get 'em!!! the cute factor is not relevant, you're right, it's war!!! (you might have guessed we fight the same war here :-)

  3. Is he a beaver? Oh my, he sure did mow right through your plants, ugh! I've got my share of varmints here too...the deer are big chewers on hostas. I might have to invest in a pellet gun too. Right now, it is "Deer Repellent" I am using. Good luck!

  4. I have two sons with a whole arsenal of air soft guns, two dogs (one of which constantly chases the squirrels) and two cats. They varmints still get my tulips. Right at the base of the flower....grrrr......

Someone suggested that they just plant extra so there is enough for them and us too. It may come to that.

    Hope you win this battle!!

  5. I'm familiar with your brand of enemy. His cousins live in my neck of the woods. I hope "woody" finds a new place to chew before things get too ugly!

  6. I understand your feelings, but.... he's so cute. I'm a sucker for animals......plant more flowers.... *smile*.

  7. He sure is cute, but I'm sure he can do some damage with those teeth! Have you thought about an electric fence?

  8. My goodness, we have all sorts of creatures here, but I haven't seen one like that. Are those his teeth?? Or should I say buckies as in bucky beaver?
I think he could definitely mow down a lot of things with those chompers. I agree with you, the war is on :).

  9. He is pretty cute, but I do understand. The cute little chipmonks around here chewed up wires in the car and our air conditioning unit for the house!!! Expensive nuisance! Hubby took care of the chipmonks around here, but I don't want to watch!

  10. Good grief Vee!!! I can't believe the damage the little critter did!!! Take some hot cayenne pepper and sprinkle it around on the flowers, that'll learn him! hugs and love, Dawn

  11. Morning girl...oh my word! That reminds me of the year we had armadillos tearing up our back yard..they were digging up everything..well one night Bill got the rifle and waited for them...sure enough within 5 minutes there was two of them out there...we have a dusk to dawn light way out back so he could see them good...he eased out by the shed and fired off the first shot...that thing jumped straight up in the air then headed straight for Bill which caused him to fall back in the bushes..he regained his composeure and went flying out the gate waving his gun like Jed Clampett with me running after him yelling "Bill You can't go out into the neighborhood waving a gun like that!" lol Oh lordy...we have had our share of fun with the local forest varmits! Don't even get me started about the possum that use to come on the back porch and eat the cat food! lol
Hope you don't start a 'range' war girl...them critters can be tricky...thanks for coming by sweetie...have a great week...Picket

  12. Oh, those little guys are so annoying. We have one that lives next door. We have two dogs, so he pretty much stays away from our yard.

I posted a photo I took last year in front of Colby Sawyer with my Vintage suitcase with the Colby sticker. I remembered that you went to Colby. So, that one is for you.

Have a great Tuesday. Hey is it Fall or Spring around here?

  14. Wow! You've got an Air Rifle! 'Uncle A.' says a good one, can HURT. And that's the point.

Mmmmmm, but, me'thinks our friend Vickie in TX, has the right idea.

    Kill 'em dead!!!

  15. My friend's 13 year old son has a collection of traps that he uses to make money on just this sort of thing. He traps and re-locates varmits and makes $$$ for his effort. Wish we lived closer; I'd give you his #.

  16. Okay, Annie Oakley, please try cayenne pepper and orange peelings before eliminating the unwelcome guest. You can buy bulk size cayenne pepper at Sam's or Costco. It really does work to keep deer away, rabbits, etc. My father found a "recipe" in Birds and Blooms magazine years ago for garden egg-nog. He used a 5 gallon bucket, mixed in a dozen eggs, garlic powder (entire container), lots of cayenne pepper, mixed it well, strained it and then sprayed his garden. After a few years, he no longer had squash bugs, either. Good luck to both you and the little woodchuck...okay the little bugger seems to be much more of a monster now, doesn't he?

  17. Yes, Diane, he really is an obnoxious pest. He's eating the only flowers I have from my mother's garden, which makes it all that much the worse. I thought that you were going to say that your father had to move out after a few years...what a noxious sounding recipe! %}

  18. Picket's comment had me laughing so hard, Vee, tnat I have to say I am so glad I did not miss this post! LOL!

I'm sure it is so frustrating to have this varmit eating your flowers. I had an issue with squirrels digging up all my flowers one year and stealing our figs. I bought an organic product that was supposed to chase them away but it ended up bringing flies as I think it was dried blood or soemthing gross like that.

  19. I suppose it just shows one person's friend is another person's enemy.

For me it's cats, I hate the way they use my garden as a toilet and kill the birds I try to feed, so I've invented my own cat repellant. A high speed jet of water! It doesn't neccessarily stop them from coming in but it does make me feel better!

  20. I. Hate. Groundhogs.
The stories I could tell you. Get rid of them. ASAP. Whatever it takes.
I shot my first one with a .22. Out of my kitchen window. Then I trapped as many as I could for years. My garage floor fell in under my feet on 3 different occasions because of the burrows underneath them.
The only way to combat them is to physically remove them. Either by killing them or trapping them.
Oh, and they are nasty too. Don't get too close.
And groundhogs are smart. Once a location is used for setting a trap, you can't use that same spot again. Unless you catch a naive youngster.
They also enjoy burrowing under the fence and coming up right in the middle of the veggie garden.
Hope my diatribe isn't too discouraging, but I battled them for about 13 years, until I moved!

  21. haha go Vee I hope you hit him dead center. Okay I sound vile, but honestly if I could find my gophers at the end of a pellet gun I would shoot the ____ out of them too. They ate whole rose bushes this year...really! My husband bought a pellet gun to shoot the rabbits mowing down my lilies, but I couldn't let him do it. I just couldn't, now with the gopher invasion from hell I am much less sympathetic to the animal kingdom lol!

  22. Oh oh...don't mess with mama's flowers bud...you is going to get it!!

  23. Uh oh! You've got a little ground hog! We used to trap and relocate them for my MIL. (she had a whole family of them.)
