(Please forgive the quality of light in these pictures. Day 12 of rain, but looking brighter for tomorrow.)

On Day 11 of rain, the postman stuffed a package in the new mailbox. It was from Judy a continent away across the continent (Laura's keeping me straight) in British Columbia...an autographed Mennonite Girls Can Cook cookbook. Tears smarted now let me tell you. In case you don't know, my connection with the book is pretty sweet. Apparently, one day in passing, I told Lovella that "Mennonite Girls sure can cook." The rest is history! ☺☺☺ How's that for taking any credit at all for what the Lord has done and all the work these girls have done and their husbands, too? Shameless, I am.

I want to thank each and every one of the Mennonite Girls who have some of the finest penmanship I've ever seen. What kind of pen were they using do you suppose?

And now it appears that I have one gently used cookbook to offer to one of my readers. These are the rules:

1. Feel free to mention this giveaway on your blog
2. You MUST have a blog to participate
3. If you win, my hope is that you'll share the good news with your readers
4. One comment on this post is all it takes

Comments will close whenever I go to bed on May 31 and the winner will be announced June 1.

That's it. Nothing to it...

P.S. Just to be clear, I am keeping the signed copy. Ain't no way I'm letting go of that one. ;>

Have heard from a number of you that you are unable to comment on this post. Just wanted to say that Blogger is aware of the problem and is working on it. It's a featured problem in "Known Issues" and is happening with a number of blogs. Don't worry, we'll let them get it straightened around so everyone who wants to comment can.

Early to bed, early to rise, and all that jazz. Comments are now closed. Thank you so much for participating. Results tomorrow!

  1. Ooooo! How exciting! Count me in! :)
I'm pretty sure that British Columbia is on the same continent as you though Vee. :P A different country-yes. Or were you just kidding and I've taken it all too far....??? :O

  2. I probably just lost the contest... right?

  3. I live in the heart of Lancaster County where we have tons of Mennonite friends and neighbors...I can say with authority that you are correct...Menonnite Girls can definitely cook!! Love your connection to fame.... ;-)

Have a great day and I do hope the sun shines for all of us soon. I'm getting soggy.....

Don't miss the giveaway at my cousin's blog. There is a link on my post today. Of course it is a $25 gift certificate to my candle shop.....what else??? lol

    Becky K.

  4. I fell in love with the blog about Mennonites can cook so I know I'd love the cookbook. My problem is that I don't really cook anymore so "when my name comes up as a winner" feel free to give it to somebody else who cooks alot. :)) I cannot seem to get enough information about the wonderful Mennonite and Amish people, et.al. I just love the lifestyle.

  5. Oh, Vee, what a sweet gift! It must mean so much to you! This really is SUNSHINE! I'd love to be in your giveaway and will mention it on my blog....

Just today, blogspot blogs don't seem able to get comments from google accounts. It isn't only me. So I am going to try to use my wordpress blog to sign in....I think when I usually sign in here I'm Kristi in the Western Reserve, but my blog is thickethouse and I think you have commented there in the past.....

  6. How very special to receive a personal copy of the cookbook - an extra-special gift from the heart.

I didn't know what to post today. I opened your blog and immediately knew what I needed to post. Although I have a very limited number of readers, I hope they will share the news of this cookbook with others.

Vee, did you find my suggestions for what your unknown flower might be? I'm curious. If it's not the right flower, please send me a picture of the leaf and I can do some more research to help you identify it.

  7. When I looked at everyone's suggestions, Diane, I thought the flowers looked similar, but the leaf didn't seem right. I'll email you.

  8. Oh I love to tell the story of how a commenter once said .."you Mennonite Girls sure Can Cook". I always think of you ..especially since we finally uncovered where you had said it.

I'm going to link the story on my blog...it's a good one.

  9. Love your photos! I love the recipe book holder...

Neat story about the name of the cookbook - that looks like a great cookbook.

It has rained since we got home from vacation - I know it rained while we were away as well, but we had beautiful sunny weather on vacation! I am looking for some sunshine!

  10. -chuckle- If you and I ever met, there would be no trouble-some silences, as you said! Oh wow! Right you are! Guess we both love to chat.

Our only problem would be.... How to make the other one stop, and give us a chance to "get a word in edge-wise." -giggles-

Oh wouldn't that be fun? Face to face? Feel very pleased as I am NOT one to go for Blogging Flesh Meets. <--Old Mailing List term for meeting other members of a Mailing List, in the flesh.

As chatty as I am, I do like my *distance.* -grin- But you and I go back so long, and have come through so much... (good, bad, and ugly)... Guess I could just hunker down and settle in for a lovely long chat, with you. How about that? As I said, feel mahhhhhhhhvelously special. -grin-

Ahhhh well, we never will. Probably. -sigh- Oh well... On the bright side... If we never meet, you won't have to be *guilty* of whacking an old gal over the head with a baseball bat, in order to get a chance to say SOMETHING, your self!

  11. Oh, and as to the cook book give-away, you know I don't join in give-aways. You've heard that tale, over and over and over again.

Plus, truly, I probably couldn't eat much in that delicious cook book, any more, anyway. :-) Life marches on, and my eating is highly curtailed.

Sure hope all this "eating-good" keeps me from having a stroke! Eventual death is a given. It's an incapacitating stroke that *Scares Me Straight* as to eating. :-)

  12. It's the book that just keeps on giving...I see! How fun to re-gift your gently used copy.

I really like your 'recipe book holder'! I don't suppose I would find a replica in this part of the world. And...I'm now working on an idea to keep the book open properly while cooking. I'll let you know if it works.

  13. Good morning Vee! How sweet for Judy to send you an autographed copy for yourself! And how nice for you to re-gift your copy to one of us lucky gals! Count me in - it's on my blog, too, and many thanks for both of you girls' sweet nature! Good luck to everybody! (mostly me!) ;0)

  14. What a wonderful gift from Judy and the rest of the MGCC girls, vee! An autographed copy of the cookbook is very special!

I already own this wonderful cookbook so please don't enter me in your contest--I'd love someone who doesn't already have it to win your spare copy!

    ♥ Pat

  22. Linds~

    Absolutely! Consider yourself entered.

  23. So YOU'RE THE ONE! :)

I love this cookbook and I can't wait to cook my way through it as soon as my heavy duty garden and lawn work is done.

I love the way the recipes are well written out and that there are so many pictures.

I have a copy so if my name pops up as winner... go on to someone else.

  24. Wow! And autographed copy is very special. Nice! The Mennonites and Amish are very good cooks. There is an Amish restaurant near Versailles where I love to eat lunch when we go to the Lake of the Ozarks here in MO. It's a plain establishment, but the food is yummy. Very popular place, too. I'll be sure to mention your give away in my next post!

  25. Oops, should be "an" not "and".

  26. Hi Vee!

What a generous giveaway! Well, I would just love to win this wonderful book - so I'm in! The pictures are beautiful, rain or no rain. We seem to be having the same thing on the west coast, rain, rain and more rain!

  27. Vee, until one of the girls mentioned it, I hadn't remembered that our title came from you..only that it was a commenter. Happy you got a copy signed by all of us, you so deserve that. I too love your stand, I have yet to find one for my book.

  35. lovelovelove to win a copy for a daughter :)

  36. Oh how exciting to learn about your connection to this cookbook. Also exciting for you to receive an autographed copy. The connections that are made through the blog world are wonderful, aren't they?
How sweet of you to give away your gently used copy. I have a copy, so I'll exempt myself from the giveaway. I haven't had a chance to try the recipes yet, but I sure am enjoying reading about "the girls".

  43. I had preordered a copy of the cookbook with the intention of giving it to my sister for her birthday. But the closer her birthday gets, the less I want to part with this copy.
