(Please forgive the quality of light in these pictures. Day 12 of rain, but looking brighter for tomorrow.)

On Day 11 of rain, the postman stuffed a package in the new mailbox. It was from Judy a continent away across the continent (Laura's keeping me straight) in British Columbia...an autographed Mennonite Girls Can Cook cookbook. Tears smarted now let me tell you. In case you don't know, my connection with the book is pretty sweet. Apparently, one day in passing, I told Lovella that "Mennonite Girls sure can cook." The rest is history! ☺☺☺ How's that for taking any credit at all for what the Lord has done and all the work these girls have done and their husbands, too? Shameless, I am.

I want to thank each and every one of the Mennonite Girls who have some of the finest penmanship I've ever seen. What kind of pen were they using do you suppose?

And now it appears that I have one gently used cookbook to offer to one of my readers. These are the rules:

1. Feel free to mention this giveaway on your blog
2. You MUST have a blog to participate
3. If you win, my hope is that you'll share the good news with your readers
4. One comment on this post is all it takes

Comments will close whenever I go to bed on May 31 and the winner will be announced June 1.

That's it. Nothing to it...

P.S. Just to be clear, I am keeping the signed copy. Ain't no way I'm letting go of that one. ;>

Have heard from a number of you that you are unable to comment on this post. Just wanted to say that Blogger is aware of the problem and is working on it. It's a featured problem in "Known Issues" and is happening with a number of blogs. Don't worry, we'll let them get it straightened around so everyone who wants to comment can.

Early to bed, early to rise, and all that jazz. Comments are now closed. Thank you so much for participating. Results tomorrow!

  4. I fell in love with the blog about Mennonites can cook so I know I'd love the cookbook. My problem is that I don't really cook anymore so "when my name comes up as a winner" feel free to give it to somebody else who cooks alot. :)) I cannot seem to get enough information about the wonderful Mennonite and Amish people, et.al. I just love the lifestyle.

  6. How very special to receive a personal copy of the cookbook - an extra-special gift from the heart.

I didn't know what to post today. I opened your blog and immediately knew what I needed to post. Although I have a very limited number of readers, I hope they will share the news of this cookbook with others.

Vee, did you find my suggestions for what your unknown flower might be? I'm curious. If it's not the right flower, please send me a picture of the leaf and I can do some more research to help you identify it.

  7. When I looked at everyone's suggestions, Diane, I thought the flowers looked similar, but the leaf didn't seem right. I'll email you.

  8. Oh I love to tell the story of how a commenter once said .."you Mennonite Girls sure Can Cook". I always think of you ..especially since we finally uncovered where you had said it.

I'm going to link the story on my blog...it's a good one.

  9. Love your photos! I love the recipe book holder...

Neat story about the name of the cookbook - that looks like a great cookbook.

It has rained since we got home from vacation - I know it rained while we were away as well, but we had beautiful sunny weather on vacation! I am looking for some sunshine!

  10. -chuckle- If you and I ever met, there would be no trouble-some silences, as you said! Oh wow! Right you are! Guess we both love to chat.

Our only problem would be.... How to make the other one stop, and give us a chance to "get a word in edge-wise." -giggles-

Oh wouldn't that be fun? Face to face? Feel very pleased as I am NOT one to go for Blogging Flesh Meets. <--Old Mailing List term for meeting other members of a Mailing List, in the flesh.

As chatty as I am, I do like my *distance.* -grin- But you and I go back so long, and have come through so much... (good, bad, and ugly)... Guess I could just hunker down and settle in for a lovely long chat, with you. How about that? As I said, feel mahhhhhhhhvelously special. -grin-

Ahhhh well, we never will. Probably. -sigh- Oh well... On the bright side... If we never meet, you won't have to be *guilty* of whacking an old gal over the head with a baseball bat, in order to get a chance to say SOMETHING, your self!

  11. Oh, and as to the cook book give-away, you know I don't join in give-aways. You've heard that tale, over and over and over again.

Plus, truly, I probably couldn't eat much in that delicious cook book, any more, anyway. :-) Life marches on, and my eating is highly curtailed.

Sure hope all this "eating-good" keeps me from having a stroke! Eventual death is a given. It's an incapacitating stroke that *Scares Me Straight* as to eating. :-)

  12. It's the book that just keeps on giving...I see! How fun to re-gift your gently used copy.

I really like your 'recipe book holder'! I don't suppose I would find a replica in this part of the world. And...I'm now working on an idea to keep the book open properly while cooking. I'll let you know if it works.

I love this cookbook and I can't wait to cook my way through it as soon as my heavy duty garden and lawn work is done.

I love the way the recipes are well written out and that there are so many pictures.

I have a copy so if my name pops up as winner... go on to someone else.

  24. Wow! And autographed copy is very special. Nice! The Mennonites and Amish are very good cooks. There is an Amish restaurant near Versailles where I love to eat lunch when we go to the Lake of the Ozarks here in MO. It's a plain establishment, but the food is yummy. Very popular place, too. I'll be sure to mention your give away in my next post!

  42. I had preordered a copy of the cookbook with the intention of giving it to my sister for her birthday. But the closer her birthday gets, the less I want to part with this copy. So winning another one would be perfect! She would get her brand new one and I'd have one too. I just love the Mennonite Girls blog and this book. Thanks so much for sharing!
