The Lake

~looking toward Farm Point~
(taken last weekend)

Wish I were there! Another summer gone and I missed out again. Sigh.

Next week is the big day when we can link up to Kati's party.

Hope that this wee photo fills you in on why there'll be no feature of my new do. I look like a prepubescent with wrinkles and gray hair. ☺

Have a beautiful holiday weekend!

  1. Good Morning, Vee. The lake is gorgeous. Hard to believe it is Labor Day weekend! My hair has been super short and I'm trying to grow it longer - finally yesterday I put on a new ball cap I bought. HOURS later, John says, "It would look better if you cut the price tag off the cap!!!!!!!!"

  2. That lake shot is gorgeous! Hope you'll get an opportunity to go next year...it looks like a lovely place for a getaway.

You have bangs! Apparently, bangs are "in" again, so you are hip!

  3. It's a shame that you weren't able to get to the lake this season. It sure does look beautiful there. Between too much rain, a malfunctioning boat, a new grandbaby and now a broken toe, we never made it into or onto the lake either... and it's right across the street. Sad, but maybe this weekend.
I think you are being too hard on your hair. It looks very cute to me... at least what I can see of it :D.
    Have a wonderful long weekend.

  4. Enjoy the long weekend! And although we have 15,000 lakes in our state, we rarely get to any of them. :-(

    1. Wow...those are amazing stats...I should think that you'd all be living in houseboats. There are only 3400 lakes in Maine and the lake shown is not one of them.

  5. Hey, I have bangs too! Always have because I like to hide my high forehead! I don't believe in rules for hair - older ladies shouldn't wear it long etc....Just enjoy wearing your hair however you and John like it!

That lake looks lovely! Sorry you didn't make it to the lake this year - maybe next year!

    1. Why are you hiding a high forehead? Show it off! I wear bangs to hide a short forehead. I'm a regular Neanderthal.

  8. What? Do they close the lake at the end of summer??
Autumn at the lake has to be picture worthy...and picnic worthy too.
    I like the curly bangs!

  9. What a beautiful lake....I hope you can get there sometime soon! I also think you look wonderful in the little peek of your new do.

  10. I honestly think it looks quite cute even from that tiny glimpse you are giving us! I have got my hair in the "lazy gal" style and cut in that it only takes me about 7 minutes to blow dry and style every 3 days. The other two I simply take 30 seconds to brush, haha. Could be because mine is razor straight. I've always envied you gals with curls...The lake picture is GORGEOUS! Hope you have a WONDERFUL Labor day week-end Vee!

  11. Oh Vee you are so funny! I had to look up that big word you used and this is what I found:
"The period of life before puberty, marked by increased growth. Associated with purity, innocence, and simplicity of life"
Hmmm - that doesn't sound too bad really?
Your hair looks great and you have the friendliest face ever!
Go to the lake this Fall - it will still be there and even more beautiful?

    1. Really? Well that's not my definition. Mine: that awkward pudgy stage just before puberty.

The lake is six hours northeast and a passport not yet obtained away.

Thanks for the sweet compliment. "Friendly" is a great one.

  12. These long weekends are being lost for me this year. I like that little glimpse of you! I'm with you on the awkward pudgy stage as I'm shocked every time I get a good view in a full length mirror...

  13. You know, Vee, I think we're spiritual soul sisters sometimes.

Tell you why I say it this time.

Half hour ago I had a breakdown with tears because this is the first year since my birth that I haven't spent one single day on my lake. I didn't go up once. I cried about it, I am so homesick - hard to explain to people who don't know lakes, but being land locked I miss the water like a drug. Ugh.

And just last night I was discussing getting bangs again to hide my huge forehead with my licensed cosmotologist hair stylist daughter. Kinda of a strange coincidence that your post has both my concerns - two you have as well.

    Weird.

    Wish we lived closer.

Have a wonderful long holiday weekend. Huge hugs.

And you look so cute in bangs. Truly.

  14. I've been waiting for the hair report. I can't tell a thing about it except that you may not be happy. :'( . I always envy those gals with thick straight hair with body that can wear really good sculpted cuts. My hair is thick, wavy AND curly and has a mind of its own. Every day is a new day with the hair. I've found that plenty of product helps, and I'm just learning to go with the curl some days.
I'm sorry you didn't go to the lake. The pic on my blog is a large pontoon boat we rent with out cabin every year. Beau likes the space and shade.

  15. Rats about not getting to the lake... can you go this fall? Oh.. I see you need passport. Oh for the pre-9/11 days when we could just take our birth certificate and head over the border.

Mmmm... I didn't see any grey. Do you need a new hairdresser?

  16. Your hair frames your face nicely and you have the most beautiful complexion! Don't be shy...you're beautiful! Sweet hugs!

  17. LOL- Vee- I dunno -that looks like pretty cute hair to me-and you have a "young face". You can carry it off just fine- xo Diana

  19. Vee, this is not very original, but I love you no matter what your hair looks like. We sista gotta stick together. The bangs do look cute. My hair looks like a dandelion when I have a perm. You know, white and frizzy. Love that shot of the lake. Great job.

  20. Vee, I read every comment and can say ditto many times. You have a very sweet face and your hair frames it beautifully. It's difficult when one has natural curl or body and the wiry or straight grey hair that has a mind of it's own. That's my hair. I have always wished for long straight smooth hair. I think when I was 10 I had hair long enough for a pony tail then my mother cut it off before I went to summer camp!! We didn't do salons then until I was 15 at least and only once or twice a year. The hair products today and flat irons can tame unruly hair. It takes time but it's worth it. I 'have' to do mine every other day to keep it tamed. I bet the lake is beautiful in October with all the fall colours. Next year. :)

  21. P.S. The photo is really sweet!! Have a great weekend. Hugs. Pam

  22. I'll bet your hairdo is cute, if the little glimpse is anything to go by. Who cares anyway when you have such a beautiful complexion? I wear bangs to cover up because my complexion is...well, I don't wanna talk about it. I'd probably have a beard, if I were manly and could grow one. But, manly I'm not! Haha!
(I told you this heat was frying my brain!)

Pretty lake photo. Have a nice holiday weekend!

  23. I'm sorry that you didn't get to go on your trip! Sounds like you need a consolation trip somewhere else - hmmm? And you look adorable! Marty likes your naughty wink to him, LOL.

  24. Come on, Vee, let us see the whole do! It sure looks cute to me. If you don't like you're curls will you please send them to me? I could use a few.
The lake view is pretty. I hope you make it there soon.

  25. Ha! I was wondering before I headed over if you would show a photo of your new do - I like the curls:)

  27. Vee,

What I can see of your hair looks nice. And you don't look like you have many gray hairs. Now me, I got'em! I think you're a very pretty lady. Please post a photo. It's your sweet spirit that drew me to your blog. And that is much more important than our looks.
    God bless,
    Ginger

  28. I'm sure the lake will wait for you Vee, sometimes we just can't fit it all in!
The 'hair do' looks lovely - not a gray hair in sight!!
    Enjoy your holiday weekend.

  29. Where there's a will there's a way! Your morning glories are gorgeous!! I've always loved them and the rich colors they grace us with.

Have a good holiday weekend my friend -

  30. You have my empathy with the hair woes; I share them!

I do love the wonderful color of your morning glories.

  31. Beautiful shot of the lake....hopefully you'll have that on your next summers wish list and cross it off. I see some soft curls framing your soft smile and wink.....quit teasing us, I bet the full view is lovely.

  32. So that is the 'big reveal'? You are too funny! Come on...show us the rest. Curls are great...flaunt them. They are not so easy to come by over here. And I don't see the wrinkles whereof you speak!

Is the lake in New Brunswick? There is always next year! Have a wonderful long weekend.

PS Glad those morning glories bloomed for you before the summer was gone.

  33. Does anyone love their hair? It's either too curly or too straight or too thick or too thin ... as far as the gray, embrace it, you earned it! The morning glory pics are great. And I guess your ban is lifted as of today! :-)

  34. I, too, am hanging onto summer...I am not NEARLY ready for fall. Good Grief!
I am letting my fingernails grow longer and am having the hardest time typing. Like when I try to let my hair grow, both hair and nails reach a certain stage that I ask myself WHY..?? did I think I wanted long hair and nails.
I tend to worry about tomorrow, knowing full well HE says not to. I have worried about the selling of the house...the move...the house inspection (taking place on Tues afternoon), and everything in between. I dreamed all night long that every time we flushed a toilet, the bathtub filled up...I was worn to a frazzle this morning when I woke up. Don't know why I dreamed this...we have never had plumbing problems other than our house is almost 50 yrs old and back then, the pipe put in was waaay too small. We do keep them cleaned out regularly.
I guess I just need something to worry about, even when I sleep.
