Photo storage problems? I've had a couple of questions this week from friends who've discovered that odious message about their space being all used up. I tried to find anyplace to tell me how I was doing as a result. Thought I'd share what I learned. If you know a better way, please let me know.
The problem is that the New Interface doesn't have this information. One must return to the Old Interface, which will not be an option for much longer by the way. So while there is still time, click on the gear at the top right of the Design Page selecting the Old Interface. (Don't worry, you can go back to the New One in a minute.) From there, click on new post, set it to html instead of compose, click on the image icon as if you were selecting a photo file, scroll to the bottom and AT LAST you'll see your information — if you dare!
I have used 40% of my available space in five years. How is that possible? The single best answer is that I always resize my photos before uploading. Any computer has programming making this possible even if you use the most basic PAINT. Photoscape, a free downloadable program also has this feature, and many of the online editing programs do as well. The added bonus, besides not using up so much photo space, is that the uploads are much faster.
Hope this helps...
My honey is taking me out for breakfast so I'm off! Have a great day...
Edited to Add: Lots of great information in comments! Such smart readers I have!
Love morning dates! Enjoy your time out for breakfast together!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your breakfast date!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you've only used 40% in 5 years! I've renewed my space twice in 2 years. I got a notice in February last year and this year that my space was full. I pay $5. for new space (I don't remember how much) but I figure it's cheap so why not. I upload my pics from Picasa and don't change the size other than on Blogger and I mostly use X-Large. Maybe that's why my space runs out so fast. I do post a LOT of pics though. lol I hope you enjoy your breakfast out with John. It's not even Saturday!
ReplyDeleteVee, when you're linked into your google account, all that you need to do is go to Picasa Web Albums. It'll show you all of your albums and at the very bottom of the screen, you'll see green writing to tell you how much storage that you have.
ReplyDeleteI did find out this information if it helps - http://support.google.com/picasa/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=39567
Hi Vee,
ReplyDeleteWell I have learnt something new, thank you. Mine says, "You are currently using 62MB (6%) of your 1024MB" I'm guessing that's good. Right?
I joined blogger in 2010, after Windows Live Spaces closed down. I was able to save all my blogs from WLS, then upload them all to my blogspot; which was pretty cool. I was happy about that. So that means I have blogs going back to 2007.
Well, here's hoping that I won't have to buy extra space.
I hope you and hubby have an enjoyable breaky.
Bye for now, Kerrie
You can easily see your Picasa storage space when you navigated over to Picasa. It's toward the bottom of the Picasa screen. I've use 1.2% and I've been blogging for 4-1/2 years. I've been primarily linking to Flickr for the past 2-1/2 years, so that helps reduce my Picasa storage needs. I am quite frugal on Picasa stored photos. I try to limit all of my photos stored on there to less than 150KB. Back when my photos were small, they were all under 50KB each. If you want to make the storage last, then all you can do is be mindful of the file sizes you are uploading!
ReplyDeleteI have loads of photo space left on my blog because I use Photobucket to store my photos. Someday this will come back to bite me I'm sure. Where I tend to use up photo storage is on my main computer...oye.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that John is making breakfast! Have a great day.
I have most certainly bought more space for both blogs. It isn't that expensive but I'm like Pamela, I've already repeated this several times.
ReplyDeleteMy feelings is that blogger is still free and it provides me much joy.
I always resize to X large too and store photos in picasa.
I always buy space....but I see that the price has gone up significantly!
ReplyDeleteI tried to create a new blog for an online bible study and the same thing happened to me! Thanks for this information. Printing it out now. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThere's always room for more...it just costs a little! I've re-newed my photo storage subscription several times...but the cost is minimal. And I like pictures! Can you tell?
ReplyDeleteHi sweet Vee!! Well, since I've been blogging now for over five years, I've filled my Picasa quota up MANY times! I buy storage every January for 20.00 a pop but I don't like to worry about the size of my pics...I want them to be enormous if someone feels so inclined to try to enlarge them. It truly is a small price for me to pay for what I get in return, friends, encouragement and inspiration to keep creating! Enjoy your breakfast sweet friend, hugs and love, Dawn
ReplyDeleteGreat information! Several months ago you helped me with this same problem. I'm so glad you posted about this. You've gotten some great feedback which will be helpful to all of us.
ReplyDeleteRather than type a long comment I will ditto what Pamela and Lovella have said. I am impressed that you have only used that much storage space in 5 years. Maybe I should look into how to resize my pictures.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your breakfast.
I've used up all free space and now pay $5 a year.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your breakfast.
My photos are saved in my computers "pictures" (the desktop computer has tons of space) and I pay for Picasa storage too.
ReplyDeleteMy personal fail safe storage: I don't delete good pictures from my camera chips. When a chip is full (usually at 1,700 shots) I save the chip and buy a new one. $40 bucks or so on chips is less than I used to spend on film most year.
I am so computer illiterate that I just bought space. Oh well. 40% in five years is really good!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy breakfast out with your honey. You deserve the treat!
Jen
good information -- good reminder to..
ReplyDeletehugs
Thanks, I'm coming back to read them all as I'm curious, Never thought to look.
ReplyDeleteAs I have a photo rich blog, and also use Picasa for my personal photos, I used up all my free space years ago, and have paid $20 a year for the last three years for extra storage, but I think that is a fair price to have my photos backed up in "the cloud" this way so I will never lose them if something happens to my hard drive (I sync all photos to the web storage through Picas to insure that)
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a nice breakfast out, Vee!
This is starting to be a familiar theme! One that slowed down my blogging for awhile. I'm too cheap to pay for more storage, so I went back and deleted a couple years worth of posts in order to be able to keep posting. I don't think my posts were anything that will go down in history, so it worked and I can go on blogging. I'll be darned if I give Google $5 ! :D
ReplyDeleteI followed your instructions for seeing what percentage of my photo allowance I have used...and then I panicked! I have blogged for nearly four years and have used 79%. YIKES!
ReplyDeleteBut then I read through the comments and see that there are options for us photo hogs. I do think that I need to resize my pictures. But putting my pictures from my Kodak software and into Picasa is certainly no time saver here on Henry (my desktop).
Vee, I admire your computer savvy. You are one smart girl.
but..but...how do we do it without going back to the old interface?? I am having such a time trying to find my way around the new interface..not to mention the print is so light! I don't think the new interface is user friendly at all! The old one was difficult ..and it seems to take forever to download photo's.
ReplyDeleteI still have not figured out how to get my "about me" on the side of my blog???
Thanks for your help..at least that's one way..for now. :)
I'm just getting here because my computer is so sluggish when I try to visit these days. That's why I'm trying to free pictures myself.
ReplyDeleteOn the picasa storage thingie, I HOPE I'm OK because I do that 5.00 a year I do that 5.00 a year thing.
I'm guilty of wanting pictures XL. I love big pictures, and I'm guilty of being Debbie Lotsapics too.
