Table Runner

Edited to Add: This was an epic fail. Please do not use burlap and material in the same sewing project. You're in for heartache if it ever needs laundering.

Thank you so much for the information and tips you shared yesterday. I learned a lot of new things. Guess it proves that there's more than one way to do a thing. I spent a lot of time deleting photos from Picasa yesterday afternoon such as all the headers I've done and some sidebar graphics no longer used. I may be there today deleting this mosaic because if the sun comes out I'll be able to get a better picture and I'll pop it in instead. Phew! That's a little better.

Yes, we did go out for breakfast, but as it happened our favorite breakfast spot was so full that we didn't stay. We drove into the city instead and, since we were there, I dragged John all around. You see I had one of those coupons for the fabric store and goodness knows I hate to let it go by without taking advantage of it. In the end, my fabric was already on sale so those coupons can get frustrating.

Then we shopped at TJ Maxx. As a result, John has a new Father's Day shirt and I saw two projects that I thought would be fun. One was a table runner and the other a tea towel.

Now I do not know who is copying whom, but I took note of the table runner thinking it was cute and figured I could do it myself. When I got home, I was less confident. Would you believe that I found a video tutorial online for making the same style or nearly so?! It's so much fun and easy. How I adore easy. It's basically just making a tube, turning it inside out, ironing the edges good and even, folding the ends in half and sewing along the edge then turning them inside out... Well you go find out for yourself right *here.*

Saving the tea towel for another day. It involves scrap pieces of fabric and some embroidery embellishments.

Any crafty projects going on at your place?

  1. Besides doing the lawn work and cleaning flower beds, I've been reading my Kindle from the porch shade and enjoying beautiful blue skies. They just seem to get more blue as I get older. Why is that?

  2. All my crafties are garden oriented.

Sounds like you had a wonderful and fulfilling day - and with John, how nice.

  3. Sure that sounds easy enough....glad you enjoy these projects. I start them and then just get frustrated at my inability. So I will enjoy yours vicariously. ((grin))

  5. No craft projects going on...for me, that is. Kati is embellishing a simple T-shirt with fabric yo-yos. It is adorable and she will be blogging about it soon. I do hope to do some sewing this summer while on our school break. It's kind of therapeutic, don't you think?

Love your table runner! Kudos to you for being inspired and then coming home and making it happen! I just took a look at the tutorial and it looks doable. I love changing out table runners...an easy way to give your table a new look every now and then.

  8. I made a new runner for my dresser but I made it one layer...that's all the fabric I had in the color I wanted to use. I'll show it soon and I'll look at this video on how to make one properly! heehee! Hugs!

  9. Sounds like your day out yesterday was fun. Great projects you picked up too. I've been putzin in the yard and cleaning up shed building debris. Also sprucing up all of my yard art that has faded thru the years. A painter of art I am not, but I am doing my best. Getting things done outside so I won't have to do it over the weekend when the temps are to be in the 90's and very humid. Have a lovely weekend and I hope you have a Sunshiney one too!

  10. I love a day that starts with a restaurant breakfast!
Your runner is pretty. I've nothing past work planned for today - but at the end of the day I'm taking part in a Big Bike ride. Not very crafty, but it will be fun!

  11. What a great table runner! Wish I had the imagination to envision and create so many wonderful projects as you do. I spend more time planning than I do sewing. It would be nice to have your artistic eye!

Sounds like a fun breakfast date.

  12. Sounds like a productive day for sure. Nothing comes easy for me in the sewing department. I think it's a childhood psychological block that I need therapy for...

  13. You are so crafty!! I wish I could just sit down and whip something up, but I always have to analyze it and by then I'm frustrated. UGH!! There are so many great tutorials on-line these days. I learned to fold my bunny napkins that way at Easter. =)

The only craftiness going on around here is the table we built last week out of the pallets. I have found another pallet project where you build a cooler. We'll see how that goes. LOL

    Have a wonderful weekend Vee!!

  14. Love the runner, thanks for the link, I haven't sewn in maybe 12 years but I am getting the urge. I only have a tiny table top machine, I got rid of my old Singer. Now kicking myself, once again. :) xo

  16. Love the table runner fabric Vee! Very summery and bright. Nothing crafty going on here. Except for buying and planting more annuals. I made up 2 containers that in another month will be very pretty. Why does it take so long for them to grow and fill in?

  17. Vee! I think I LOVE YOU! Thank you so much for all that information. How sweet of you to take the time!
AND you also have made a table runner?? It's beautiful.
I am heavy into my outside gardening right now (the Fairy Garden) etc.. and now I am about to undertake doing my lawn swing for summer. A new slipcover for the pad. Not hard, its just getting it done!
Now I must go back and enlarge your photo's of the runner! I ..just..may need one of those! :):)
    Hugs,

  18. The table runner is clever. Nothing simple there. I save..everything. :) However, as pretty as that runner is...it's the ceilings in that room that caught my eye. *be still my heart*

  19. Beautiful runner Vee!!! I know exactly what method you used too! I made lined curtains that way one...the lining was smaller than the fact fabric and resulted in face fabric being pulled around to the back! Then I just hemmed the bottom and made the pocket for the top ~ this is precious though....sounds like a day in town was just what you guys needed!! I hope you both have a wonderful, sunny weekend dear friend, hugs and love, Dawn

  20. Lots of unfinished projects here - and not much time to work on any of them. But school ends soon and then I'll be home more.
These days, I'm cooking - our household has doubled with the arrival of the travelers, and I'm cooking for the new baby's family, and there's a baby shower scheduled for Sunday afternoon - we'll see if it happens!

I just read your quick directions for the table runner - how brilliant.

  21. Very pretty table runner! If I were into sewing, I would whip one of those up myself. But, alas, my sewing machine has been gathering dust for more years than I care to mention and I don't even know if it would run any more. I'm not into anything crafty...just gardening. I'm watering and trying to keep the flowers going in this heat.
    Have a nice weekend!

  22. I haven't been here since you changed the "look"... beautiful!

It's good to have time to visit and comment again. Life got just TOO busy for awhile. Even if it was for good things like a wedding, gardening, etc.

You guys are getting our share of rain. Since we have a well though, I'd rather have to water a lot than go through excess rains.

We had that before and it causes so much rotting of the garden and flowers if there isn't enough time between rains for it all to drain.

  23. I watched this link Vee and thought it was super easy. One day I'm going to give myself just 10 minutes and see if it's possible. I was taking some special pictures for Lorrie yesterday and she wrote later to say she had received one of my notecards...from you. The blogging circle never ends...It's a small world.

  24. Love your runner Vee. I am into crocheting my items from plarn for the summer picnic at the Nazareth Picnic. This is the last year since all the sisters are getting old and it is so much work even with volunteers. We had to take the only Saturday left for the picnic and that puts it into the last of August and just too d--- hot for everyone.
    Gonna check that toot out.

  25. I love table runners and yours is so pretty.
My crafty project is working with my flowers on the patio and side yard.

  26. Loving the table runner. I currently have place mats on my kitchen table. I think a runner would be a good way to switch things up a little.

Right now, I'm crafting my summer wreath. It's going kind of slowly because I keep getting sidetracked with other stuff. I'm kind of crafting ADDebbie.

  27. I have been suffering from lack of creative outlet! I need to do something today! Maybe I'll sew a skirt or something!

Your table runner looks cute - I like that it's reversible!

  29. We are still working a lot in the yard that we almost lost last yr due to NO rain. My lawn is looking a LITTLE better but still pitiful.

  31. I love your table runner fabric!

I made a wreath for my front door recently ... it's been awhile since I used my glue gun and I enjoyed the process!

  33. Love the table runner.
I always have a few projects going. Knitting, weave-its, a needlepoint and a counted cross stitch are all in the works.
One of these days I'd like to learn to sew. I have my mom's old sewing machine and have yet to try to use it.
