Embroidery~Mosaic Monday

Image will enlarge

I love embroidery, do you? Recently, I won this book: Embroidery Craft: Stitching through the Seasons by Vicki Haninger. Vicki has a wonderful blog called Turkey Feathers. I've been enjoying my visits there for over three years now. Not only does Vicki sell embroidery patterns, she is very generous with free images for embroidery as you can see by her current offering of state flowers for a state flower quilt. *Here* is her page for New York's state flower—the rose. Have fun looking around!

Embroidery Craft... is a delightful book filled with darling images. Below is a numbered mosaic if you're interested in knowing the particulars of this mosaic.

1. The book! (Glossy and a bit hard to photograph.) 2. The iron on patterns using patterns from the book. 3. My sweet note from Vicki hoping that I'll find hours of fun. 4. Yes, I've already started on the fun with this little blue bird. 5. A tea towel made from a pattern I purchased from Pattern Bee (Vicki's Online Embroidery Shop) a few years ago. 6. A tea towel close-up.
Thank you so very much, Vicki! I will be enjoying this book for years to come!

And, as always, big thanks to Mary at Little Red House for hosting Mosaic Monday!

  1. Vee- The little blue bird is so cute and I linked to turkey feathers- looks like a good read. I love to embroidery but I have let it slide since I do so much scrapbooking. I'll have to go find my stash. Have a great day.

  10. I used to do crewel work and cross stitch when I was young, Vee, but when "middle age eyes" hit me I found myself struggling to do such fine work. Maybe I'll try the rose however as it is also my birthday month flower! Your little blue bird is adorable and I love the tea towel.

  16. What a sweet little stitching book! What a nice lady Vicki must be! And she even has such a pretty name ;o)

I'm not a stitcher. I did some embroidery in my much younger days. I love English smocking, tho. I did that when my kids were little and made little bubble suits and gowns for them. And little button on shorts and knickers for Josh. That's about the extent of my stitching. I love the look of embroidery but I just don't have time to squeeze anything else in...

    ((hugs!)) Vickie

  21. Mornin' Vee!

I love this type of embroidery!! The blue bird is adorable. I remember so many pillow cases that my grandma & mom would use with embroidery on them that they had done in times when the radio was their entertainment and allowed them stitch & listen. Thank you for sharing Turkey Feathers sight... going there now!!

    big hugs, Sherru

  24. So charming! And like Christine, I embroidered when I was younger -- pillowcases, my daughter's clothing, things for gifts. I haven't done it since my 20s. I really don't miss it because a thousand other things have taken its place. But I'm always impressed by people who practice the art.

  25. Guess I have a mixed reaction to embroidery. Yes, it's sweet and old fashioned and dear, and can invoke nice, warm memories in me.

But on the other hand, I once tried to use embroidery to distract myself, at a trying time in my life... And sigh, that only brings sad memories.

Both sides of the coin. Like so much of life is, I guess...

  34. Hi Vee:
I just popped over from Lea's blog and enjoyed my visit here. I read your previous post as Catherine Marshall has always been one of my favorites! I hadn't heard that Peter Jr. died and it made me sad. Her book, "Beyond Ourselves' has always been one of my very favorites. I've quoted her opening sentence so many times in conversations...'the search for God begins at the point of need'.

Thanks for the visit and the update!

  37. I love the embroidery, and the way you created the post looks like you embroidered some of the words. You are so clever. My sisters are better at this than I am...never have been good with the needle. Yet, I admire anyone who can. Lovely work Vee.
