Ever pass by a room and be annoyed by an element in it? If it's a window or a door, that's a problem, but if it can be solved by moving furniture about or shifting a decorative piece from here to there...well, then, the problem is easily solved and will relieve that minor irritation. (We could probably apply this to many things in life.)
The beginnings of this post were planted by my two Terris. Yes, they belong to me! => Terri of Lakewood Manor did two posts about her bedroom *here* and *here*. You can see the before and after pictures of all that she was able to accomplish in just one weekend. It inspired me!
Terri of Windlost did a post on Vincent Wolf Tablescapes (see January 9). Though I can't possibly aspire to Wolf's level, it did make me think that I could do something that I'm about to show you. When you ask. Now!
So it all began with this photo...
The plant stand is much too small for its location, but the Christmas cactus must remain there for the light...what to do...what to do...
Use this tiered table located on the opposite wall? But I really like something there by the built-in bookcases.
Okay, the picnic basket (still loving it, Suzanne!) works just fine there.
And the tiered table is better scale, holds the plant, and provides a place to set a cup of tea!
But, and this is where Vincent Wolf comes in, does that plant stand look okay on top of the coffee table? (The Carpenter is unimpressed.)
Both Fioré and I agree that it does. What do you think?
So here we are back where I started with the tiered table instead of the plant stand. Better?
Last week when I was stripping down the Christmas decorations and came to my dining area light, I could not remove it all. I really like the little embellishments and will probably always keep something there year round.
That's it for today...thanks for the inspirations, dear Terris!
P.S. Did you happen to notice the little cloth ball? No? Neither did the grands for whom it was made. I'll share more on that later, if anyone is interested.
Vee,
ReplyDeleteI do like the scale of the tired table next to your chair. What a view with all that snow! I think I could sit there all day and just drink in the winter beauty.
I had to go back and look for the ball, it is adorable! I am assuming that it is soft for indoor throwing.
I am off to check out those links and garner some inspiration. Table tops are my nemesis! I am for ever moving things to try and get a look I like. The table in front of my sofa now holds one coaster! Nothing else!
Have a wonderful day!
Opps, I did not mean that your table was tired, just tiered ;c)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about those things that just kind of simmer on the brain...but don't get resolved quickly. We gave away our large speakers which held my table lamps in the living room. Now, I need to find something to put at least in one corner because it is just too dark without it. You have inspired me to take care of it...today!
ReplyDeleteThanks Vee!
I cannot remember if anyone has called me a source of inspiration before, so I am really enjoying this. Thanks for the kind words. By the way, any of your followers who are interested, go look and offer me your suggestions, too. Decorating is a process!
ReplyDeleteI love the scale of the tiered table. It fits beautifully!
By the way, how did you draw/write on your PHOTO???
ReplyDeleteHi Vee!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the cups hanging from your chandelier! I'd leave it too.
It's fun to move things around until it looks right. Stuff like that really bothers me too. Yes I saw the fabric ball, will be interested to hear it's story.
I'll be back posting tomorrow! Hugs, Sherry
I love the 2 tiered table. That works well. I am however in agreement with the Carpenter. I don't know about the other one on the table! Not sure I like that so much. But the house is looking wonderful, Vee! So cosy and I just love those bookshelves!
ReplyDeleteI love the tiered table by the window. With a place to put a cup of tea I'd find it very difficult to get out of that chair. For some reason the plant stand seems out of scale on the coffee table. From the camera angle it appears a bit too tall.
ReplyDeleteI love the picnic basket under the window between the bookcases. I use mine in much the same way, magazines are stored inside and a book or two on top.
Your home is so cozy. There are alot of McMansions around here that do not have one cozy space in all of their square footage!

Vee, I do like something a little heavier like that picnic basket in front of the window and the plant stand works really well by the window as well. . .but I'm not 100 % on the table topper. It looks topply to me. . .and if I see right there is a candle on it. I think a plant on a stack of books would look really nice there. . .and I am turning into quite a minimalist. . .so you might want to disregard anything I have to say.
ReplyDeleteOh .. .and I think we have exactly the same blanket that covers your coffee table. . go figure. . we live on the same continent after all.
Loving your inspirations and I can see that all your creative juices are flowing since you've taken down the Christmas decorations. Me... I was just glad to get the decor all back in the attic! LOL. No decorating for me... only artwork and computer issues (thanks for allowing me to be "real"!) Oh, and I loved your previous post... the Cat in the Hat? Your cat has excellent taste!

I like your solution for the plant - looks great!!
ReplyDeleteThe plant stand works for me on the table too and yes I did notice the ball.
I keep moving things all over the place in the new house trying to get everything set. I'll probably be doing that for a while yet, but it's fun. :-)
Dear Carpenter,
ReplyDeleteAunt Amelia is unimpressed also... With the plant stand on top of the coffee table.
But she applauds the Lady Of The House, for her bravery with trying new things.
There, did I stay on everyone's good side? ,-)
Aunt Amelia
"I wish the sky would rain down roses... They would fall as light as feathers, smelling sweet: and it would be like sleeping and yet waking all at once." ~~George Eliot
I liked th way you worked everything out. The snow looks so pretty outside of your window. I love the way you hung the teacups from your chandelier. Very pretty. I hope you have a wonderful day :>)
ReplyDeleteYour tiered plant stand looks great...as does the wonderful picnic basket by the window. And I noticed the ball at first glance...actually thought it was a huge ball of yarn! So tell us about the ball...and I'm sure there's a story behind the boots on the window ledge.
ReplyDeleteI'm with the carpenter, when it comes to the tall plant stand on the chest...it scares me a little. My grands would bring it down in no time.
Your home is lovely in every corner...... I do so love tiered tables.... they are so handy..... but all that cold outside your beautiful french door...... brrrrrr.

Hi Vee
ReplyDeleteI do like the tiered plant stand next to the window. What a pretty view! I agree with Miss Sandy that I too could sit and look out that window at winter beauty for a long time.
I'm not too sure I like the other one on the coffee table -- unless you place some other tall objects around it, like candle sticks, to balance it out.
The picnic basket makes a wonderful table by the bookshelf and I did notice the stuffed ball lying on it -- very sweet!
I also love the teacups hanging from your chandelier -- very whimsical. I will have to catch up and read all the wonderful links you gave in this post and the tea one below.
Thanks for keeping my daughter in your prayers. She is feeling a little better today, but is still weak, poor kid! We're still waiting for the doctor to call back with her blood work results.
Stay warm!
Hugs, Pat
I'm seriously loving the teacups hanging from your chandelier, Vee! Fabulous idea! And I noticed the blue ball ... love how it looks on the basket.
ReplyDeleteI'm running around my home lately moving things everywhere. After Christmas it seems that everything needs to be adjusted.
xo,
Lynda
ps ... love your new banner!
ReplyDeletexo
It'll grow on The Carpenter...he just needs to give it a little time. I like the adjustments myself. I'm forever tweeking things here and there...that's the problem with being a housewife. Plenty of time to come up with new bright ideas. lol Randey's always said he would never walk into our house at night without turning on a light because he's afraid he'd trip over a new furniture arrangement. lol The man acts like I change things 12 times a week. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your light and the embellishments...very whimsical and pretty!
Kari
Oh Dear Sweet Vee,
ReplyDeleteMy whole morning agenda was changed because of this post.
My living room is all changed around and clean! I am loving it!
Photos soon on Hospitality Lane.
Thanks!
Yes I did notice the ball. I saw it right off. I can't wait to hear more about it....Hugs...m.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Vee! When you can't get outside, get busy inside! is what I say. Your adjustment of the two-tiered table is just right. I like it and I'm sure your cactus likes it!
ReplyDeleteAs for the plant stand on the coffee table, well, it's a tad tall for me. I would be the one to knock it over - I know me very well. If I come to your house, you'll have to put it up out of my reach, probably like your sweet little grands!
What pattern are your coffee cups? THey are the same colors of my grandmother's dishes that were stolen. Have you been to Texas lately????
;^) Vickie
Oh, yeah - I meant to comment - it looks like ya'll are having quite a winter blast these days... It would drive me crazy to be indoors all winter!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everybody, for your opinions. Would you believe that The Carpenter now likes the stand on the coffee table and can't imagine why you all don't? Talk about a switch! LOL!
ReplyDeleteIt's very heavy...about 50 pounds and it's very well seated. It would take an earthquake to knock it over. Even so, it'll probably get set down whenever the grands come or Vickie comes or Judy comes.
What is neat about it is that the candle can be burning atop it and I don't worry about the cat knocking it over. So it's taken a load from my mind.
Vickie, the teacups are the Friendly Village pattern from Johnson Brothers. I inherited them from my grandmother. I'm so sorry about yours... No, nope, I haven't been to Texas...honest!
I know exactly what you mean! I did that this morning in fact! I haven't felt good the past few days and when I woke up feeling GREAT this morning...the flower arrangement on my dresser looked awful...all of a sudden! So I took EVERYTHING off and now it is empty. I'm going to start fresh! I love your blog and would like to link it on mine! THANKS!
ReplyDeleteYou are just so creative, Vee. I wish you were my neighbor and could come over for tea and decorating tips (to give them to me!).
