One Country Home

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone

So until I read Linda's laments followed by Kathy's of January 9, I really wasn't aware of what was going on in the publishing community.

As it turned out, Saturday afternoon I took two boxes of my culled books to the library so they can store them in their attic until this May's book sale. As I set the boxes of books on the bench labeled "Set Book Donations Here," I saw a big box of magazines labeled free. I grabbed just the top one without paying much attention.

Reading it Saturday evening was pure pleasure...

Linda and Kathy will understand...

  1. Hi Vee!

I love old magazines! I always look at yard sales and have found some great ones to ponder over and drool over!
Thanks for the writing on photos instructions, I wondered how you did that. I'm going to try it!

    Hugs, Sherry

  2. I'm bent double laughing. Even as I was reading the step by step by step directions, my brain was calling me names and demanding that I go back to bed and rethink this. But no, I'm going to try it...yes, I am!~ Thanks so much Vee...

  4. Ah yes, they have changed haven't they? I love old magazines, I should dig out some of the really old ones this winter :) Perhaps we'll all get a big chuckle out of them.

Thanks for the photo instructions, I'll have to get busy and try it out now :)

Have a wonderful day Vee :)

  6. Vee,

It is so sad to see these old favorite go! I heard a report recently that said the publishing industry will be publishing 75% LESS books this year! Barbara Jacksier suffered the same fate when her new book was pulled from publication! Sad times for those folks and us too.

Thank you for the tip, I have long wondered how to do that. I'm going to give it a try!

    Have a lovely day.

  8. I especially love finding old Victoria magazines!

Yes, as I understand it so far it is Country Home, Mary Engelbreit, and Cottage Living that will no longer be published.

  9. I'm sorry to see Country Home go...a great magazine. I'll just have to visit my favorite 'country home' blogs instead!

Thanks for the great tutorial. I will go try scribbling on pictures sometime soon. We have all these tricks at our disposal...if we only know how to use them. And what I learn how to use today...I have often forgotten by tomorrow!

  10. Hi Vee, I really enjoyed your tutorial. I smiled when I saw your find from the library. I do read too many magazines but always pass them along for someone else to enjoy. I'm thankful for bloggers who inspire. Have a lovely day! ~Kathy

  11. Hi Vee, I have been reading your blog for a few weeks and have so enjoyed it. I didn't know about Country Home and I subscribe to it.

  12. I heard about "Country Home" today on another blog. I subscribe to it! Also "M E's Home Companion" which is also possibly going out of business. I had a subscription to "Cottage Living" and it stopped publishing too, but it transferred by subscription to "Real Simple" magazine. I hesitate to subscribe to any other magazines for fear they will go out of business --which is exactly the Catch 22 the magazines are hoping to avoid. It's sad to see such lovely publications fall by the wayside ;-(
