Awards and Honors and Gratitude and Oh Help

Recently, I've received two delightful awards. The Sisterhood Award comes from my dear friend Barbara @ Ramblings from an English Garden. Barbara and I have been visiting back and forth consistently for two years come September. That's a long time in Bloggy Years! I appreciate her so much and I'm glad that she thinks of me as a member of the Sisterhood.

The second award comes from a new-to-me blogging friend Lisa @ A Cottage to Me. I like its sassiness. It comes with requirements: List 10 things about yourself and then pass it on to others.

1. The Award Issue is a sticky one for me. I never follow the rules; I have often left awards on the table; I'm honored and pleased, yet, at the same time, conflicted. I am conflicted because to pass them on has always felt awkward. It would be like walking through Keukenhof Gardens and selecting just one tulip. Impossible!

2. Therefore, I have been most snobby and have appreciated most those awards that were created by a blogger and not meant to be passed on such as the two you'll find on my sidebar for today only. Yes, if I'm going to say what I'm about to say, I think that even they must be placed in my file of treasures.

3. File of treasures? Oh yes, I do have a file filled with these awards. It is much like the file I've kept of all the drawings and letters my children have given or that my students gave me or even my love letters. Some things are special, after all.

4. So from now on, if I should receive an award, I will kindly thank you for even thinking of me. I'll take it and place it in my treasure file, but it won't be mentioned here; so there'd really be little point for anyone to give one.

5. This little button is going to sit in my sidebar, down low and away, and after a while, even he will fly off.

I'll be like Pat at Mille Fiori Favoriti who says that your comments are her awards. I find that the same — your visits and your comments are my reward. Actually, my visits to your wonderful blogs are truly my reward.

6. And see? I just can't follow the rules.

Enjoy your Tuesday...

  1. What are rules but things waiting to be broken? No one knows that better than me, an elementary principal. I so often hear, "I couldn't HELP myself Mrs. Steffes!"

  2. I break those rules all the time, as well.

    Very nicely said.

  3. I always feel so uncomfortable passing on the awards. I usually tell the people that I will absolutly not be offended if they ignore it.
Congratulations though on recieving these. They are well deserved!

  5. Congratulations Vee, you deserve oodles of awards. I always feel worried when I pass them along that some one might be feeling left out an offended. I like your style.

  6. Wonderful way to recognize awards Vee. A "thank you" for the thoughts behind them, with recognition of who gave them to us, but the wish and requirement in acceptance that we not to have to choose a few from the many wonderful and ever growing list of fellow bloggers to pass it on to.

I do love your tag of the bright bird with the berry in his mouth ...that fits your blog so well!

  7. I love the "Award Free" button - and I agree with the comments are awards mindset - I think it's so nice to get them, but then I feel obligated to play along and I don't want my blog to bee "obligatory" in any way. This is such a nice way to put it :-)

  9. I don't think there are any rules here in blog land. I also feel uncomfortable about passing on these awards. Like you say, how can you choose. I like your new header. Very pretty indeed. I hope you have a happy day!

  10. Oh I break the rules all the time with awards, I really never can never pass them on, but I appreciate the thought behind them. I like that... " your visits & comments are my rewards"! I feel the same way.

  11. Vee . .I feel much the same way about awards. . and games and tags .. .I just am too much of a free spirit to feel confined to rules. .perhaps because we are so bound by rules in our real worlds. .we can throw caution to the wind in bloggy land. .
    Congratulations all the same.

  12. I feel the same, Vee. Can I borrow your award free button?

By the way - I really like your new header! Very spring-y, very vintage, very sweet!

  13. Vee,
You have just addressed an issue I have too. I currently have two such awards sitting and waiting to be given out. I don't like to pass them out because then I feel like I might slight someone else. I rarely play by the rules. I visit and thank the giver but what to do after that? I have seen some blogs with similar buttons that state that they are award free and tag free blogs. Does this make one unsocial or ungrateful? I have been wondering how to handle this award situation and I'll be snoopy enough to read the comments of your readers to see how they feel about it.

  14. You are hilarious, yet so deserving of these awards! I feel much like you - I'd rather have a comment from a new reader than an award any day!

    Happy Tuesday!

  18. Yaaaaa, another one joining the "Award Free Zone." :-) Said with gratitude and understanding of all things-Awards, of course.

Like so many things, I'm sure the Giving Awards began with good intentions. But also like so many things, it took on a Life Of Its Own. And lost its original 'feel.'

Perhaps someday, Giving Awards will come back around again. And it'll be new and shiny again. :-)

But until then, I applaud your decision.

    Gentle hugs,
    Aunt Amelia

  20. I love this! I, too, am a rule breaker when it comes to awards. I am not very good at playing along...too lazy, I guess, and a bit reluctant to single some out but not others. I enjoy so many blogs, and I agree- comments are the best reward. I have been lazy with that too, I'm afraid, as I have been so busy with a project that is taking all of my spare time.

I have seen that "award free" button before, but always worried it might offend someone. Have you had any response to it?

    Cheers,
    Linda

  21. OH the beauty of those tulips on yesterday's post. I've been gone...traveling so haven't checked in lately, but you always throw out the lovelist welcome mats and I'm glad to be visiting you again tonight.

If comments disappear, please don't fret. A simple "hi" will do. The platform surely needs some maintenance.
