A Haven for Vee

A Little Project for the Refrigerator

So when you were touring Haven's kitchen yesterday did you wonder what this was all about? The blank cardboard on the refrigerator that is?

It's a former day calendar that ran out of paper. It still is a nice piece of cardboard with an even better magnet strip. Therefore, in the interest of repurposing and experimenting...

I've recently learned how to use photomerge in photoshop so I have been playing with backgrounds and images. We have so many blogging buddies who very generously give us free images: The Feathered Nest, Down Abbie's Road, and Quill Cottage for starters.

Here's a little bookmark image I found at Abbie's The Vintage Moth.

It's important to remember what's up and I'm sure you can guess why!

Oops! I forgot a step.

The dreaded Distress Ink. I can never, and I mean never, get this to look right as you'll soon see.

The finished project...

As it happens, I was visiting blogs last evening long after this post was in the can. I found something that would've been so perfect for a fridge *here,* fourth image down. (ETA: the link is no longer valid. It showed a vintage ad featuring food.) Okay, the next time I have a day calendar that's run out of pages...

You have a wonderful day!

  6. Hi Vee!! I love it!!!! I love the way you layered all of the images...and I think you did a wonderful job with the distress ink. I love using make up sponges to gently add color around the edges. I love that you used the back of the calendar too!! I hope you're doing wonderful Vee ~ hugs and love, Dawn

  7. Good job, Vee! Photoshop is amazing...but a bit of work to learn...and so it remains mostly unused over here.

And NO...I never noticed the blank cardboard in yesterday's tour. Not too obeservant over here!

  8. Oh that is sooooooo cute! You are so clever! I don't have any idea what you're talking about, with doing all of that. But the results are lovely!

Here in my kitchen, I only have room little calendars, on the frig. One year I found one, with one of those super magnetic strips holding it up. Since then, I've used that same magnetic strip, to hold up my next little calendar. :-)

See, for me, THAT is being creative! LOL!

Oh and please read my entry of today. I'm looking for Courage. Looking for people to hold my hand. In regard to what I show, in my house. -giggles-

  11. Beautiful Vee! I love the vintage images and the designs you made within the collage.

I don't dare buy photoshop as it would be one more thing that would keep me on the computer all day ..lol

  13. Hey, you did great! Love the 3 dimensional quality too. Aren't those vintage images sooooo sweet? One easy way to apply the distress ink is to rub a cottonball on the pad and then rub around on your project. Much more control that way!

By the way I think your kitchen is wonderful and sweet and you did a beautiful job with the distress ink so tell that inner critic to shush. :)

  15. Vee,

This is brilliant!!! I love it and I love that you are learning something new with the Photoshop, maybe you can give us a class some time! I so wish I know how to do digi art but am hopeless with technical stuff.

Thank you for the sweet mention and I just love how your rain bent on this one ;c)

  16. Hi Vee

I'm so behind in my visits, so I apologize. I love the real look around you kitchen. We do tend to show a lot of the best things around the house rather than all of it. I love the yellow cupboards with all the red - very 50's. So warm and sunny. And what a great idea to re-purpose the calendar remnant. I think it turned out great!

    Enjoy your weekend!
