Keeping a Blog Private

Bless you, bless you, bless you to those who rose to the challenge of answering yesterday's question. Your varied responses prove that there is more than one way to do a thing. Lovella answered in the simplest of ways and I'm sharing her response up front:

The new private blog which is unseen at all is easy peasy. In your edit profile ..simply unclick the blog you do not want to be visible on your profile. I am not sure if that is what you mean but from what I can tell you want it completely invisible. . .for only family to read. You would give them permissions in the permission slot.

Edit Profile is found in the Dashboard Section

Several options are listed

Including which blogs to display

As you can see, I have two blogs. *I decided to show only one on my profile. As Lovella says, "easy peasy." Thank you, Lovella!

Now all of the above was for those of you who, like me, didn't know. Go forth and create a private blog...oh the possibilities!

***

In other news, my hands have seized up after all that crocheting so I'm all done with that for a while. I managed to move forward instead of in circles on the tiramisu blanket mentioned yesterday and now have a little white number suitable for John's little great-granddaughter's baby doll. It's kind of cute, but has a few minor issues the largest of which is that I changed the pattern. Still that edging and the woven ribbon are what make it for me. Some fine day, when my hands have calmed down, I'll get back to doing it properly.

Whatever am I going to talk about now that I can't discuss crocheting? ☺

  1. Vee I am so glad you asked about the privacy blog since it looks like I didn't know how to do it either. The way I told you is how I would have done it and that probably not work, now I know. Thank goodness for Lovella. I sure understand about the hands. Do a little, rest a little. My thumbs are about useless at this point. Beautiful item though.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing the pictures to show how the privacy blog is done. Although I wasn't able to answer your question ~ I thought you were the one who told me how to do it since I seem to ask you all of my blogging questions! I'm so glad that the answer was shared with you. I'll refer back to this as it is very helpful.

What an absolutely beautiful creation for your step-great granddaughter. I hope her mother will help her treasure it.

  3. Thanks for the info. I have a shutterfly blog that allows me to put videos, all my pictures...tons of things on it, and it is just for my family with a guarded pass word. I love that I can just order start pictures off my site. It has a calendar and sends notices to family members of upcoming events...I love it, this is the second year to use it.

This is just beautiful...I love seeing your work.

  5. Oh... That display info was helpful for me too. My mom started a blog which I'm a part of, but she didn't want it displayed... and I wasn't sure how to do that. Thanks!

  6. I'm so happy I could help. I learned how to do this when I created all the recipe box sections for the mennonite girls can cook. I realized I needed to create a new blog for each section. . but didn't want them all listed.
Oh the wonderful tricks we learn from each other.
Oh your crocheting is lovely. . .so pretty.

  7. That was very helpful! I loved that you shared the photos of the screens too.

As to your crocheted doll blanket....so precious! I agree, that beautiful edging and the ribbon make it adorable!

  9. "Go forth and create a private blog...oh the possibilities!"

-chuckle- But only if one has people, you want to blog-to/for, in a private way. But STILL remaining your usual self. Meaning, you stay Vee, to those whom you let read "The Haven", and for those you let read whatever you family blog is. Same you.

When I have blogs, not associated with "The Attic," I want to keep the "audience" separate also. If that makes any sense. And it probably doesn't. -sigh-

So, to put it another way, I did not want my "Aunt Amelia" Icon to show ... On my Other blogs. And unless you "start from scratch," your original Icon pic pops up, in your use of the NEW Blog. A No, No!

I'll stop now. You are happy. Enough...

  12. I alwasy learn something when I browse blogs like yours! Thanks for sharing!

  13. Interesting point, Aunt Amelia, however, you don't have to add your profile to any blog that you don't wish to. My profile does not exist on my second blog. Perhaps someone could find the connection, but I think that it would be very difficult. The private blog would be for family members and they would not be precluded from "finding" the blogs that are open to anyone.

  14. Great information to have! My young daughter wants to blog, but I didn't want her publishing for all to read her 12 year old adventures. It's the same reason she doesn't Facebook as well. Children are targets when they have their own spaces. This might be a great solution.

I love the little blanket. So delicate and sweet. I truly envy those who can crochet. It's a beautiful art.

    Have a happy Wednesday!

  16. Hurray for you! It really turned out lovely. I'm praying for your hands. Selfish really, I don't want to wait too long to see your next creation!

  17. The blanket is lovely and Molly is as cute as a button in her new collar. I think the idea of a private blog for family is a great idea. that way you could share pictures and stories. When I started this blog I promised my son I'd keep my family out of it. I've tried really hard to "be good".

  18. Well, let's see, you could talk about how spring is going to bust out any day now, about the books you're reading, the meals you're cooking, what inspires you...I know you'll think of something.
The blanket is so sweet. Lucky great granddaughter!

  19. Love the little blanket, it's beautiful. If you say you changed the pattern, I believe you, I just don't see it. I agree, the ribbon finishes it. My favorite is the scalloped edge too. I answered a few of your questions on my blog if you feel like back tracking. Thanks for sharing the tip on the private blog, always good to learn something new! Now you may move forward with your family secrets and stores to share with your family.

  20. I wasn't sure if that was what you were asking..I started to answer that I have two blogs, one is purely for practice, that no one sees..even knows about, until now. Very easy, indeed.

Yep, my hands would be tired, too. I have been cleaning my dining room and moving things around and I am beat.

  21. Kind of cute? Very cute!

I'm smiling about the seized up hands! I went on a crocheting marathon a few years back...and got a severe case of tennis elbow. It still flares up when I overdo things...so I must ration my crocheting. Good luck with that!

  23. The women in my family have a private blog where we can stay in touch. My daughter set it up and invited us to participate. Sorry I can't tell you how she did it but she did create it on Blogger. Nancy

  24. That is some sweet little baby doll blanket...love it!
Hope your hands recover, maybe that is a sign for some gardening and dirt work...I am hoping your season changes fast. It is horrid that you still have snow!
