A Haven for Vee

Good Weather

When one has been working as long as John has on this wee haven, believe me, we get very excited to hear good weather news. And it looks as if we have two weeks of good weather stretching ahead. It's been a weird weather year and so often plans have been thwarted because of it. Now we're down to crunch time with winter's shadow nearing and we are both eager to tie up the loose ends.

I'm also very grateful that our outrageous electric bill — $150 a month (and that with a propane stove and a propane dryer) — is about to be a thing of the past. It will be wonderful to get the new main attached. The electrician thinks that we're losing a lot of power through a corroded, old wire running from the pole to the house and about to be removed in favor of the underground system. Yes! I'm quite excited. In fact, you may never have heard me this excited.

Here are the steps in order of what's next...the remainder of the west side, the dormer, and the front of the house.

So, tell me, what's floating your boat these days? Can it be any more exciting than new wiring?

  1. What floats my boat these days? Um, coffee and flavored creamer, a house decorated by my DIL for autumn, and some much-needed precip in my neck of the woods today! Oh - and you. You're one of my best blogging friends and I'm thankful for your quiet presence in my life. :)

    Love to you,

  2. My husband keeps telling me that we're not suppose to think "Christmas" until after Thanksgiving. So, why do I get excited when Christmas decorations begin showing up in store at the end of September? I love it! (So, may I use that as "floating my boat"?)

  5. I'm so happy about the good weather! I'm not very excited for the snow to come.

So happy for you about the new wiring. Sounds like it should save you some big coin. :)

    What's floating my boat??
I'm too busy trying to keep teenagers from having sex and helping little ones with their math problems to have much of anything floating MY boat. :P
    I'm so tired.........

  6. That new wiring sounds like it will do the trick. We have oil, and yikes what an expensive ordeal that is.

I keep staring at the down trees and hoping that we can clean up the mess before the next snow. Our town Halloween was cancelled and postponed until next Monday. There are still lots of folks here without power. It's amazing how one day can cause so much havoc.

Wishing you a lovely day. Enjoy the nice weather.

  7. New wiring can be pretty darned exciting if you've been living with old wiring, right?

What floats my boat today is having coffee and salted caramel brownies with two of my girlfriends today.

    Enjoy your great weather!

  9. New wiring is exciting! Floating my boat these days? Well, I guess being able to be with family and enjoy Tim's mom. Life is short even if you live to be 90, so take advantage of the time you have been given!

  14. Super news, all round, Vee and John!!!

    Gentle hugs,
    "November comes
    And November goes,
    With the last red berries
    And the first white snows.

    With night coming early,
    And dawn coming late,
    And ice in the bucket
    And frost by the gate.

    The fires burn
    And the kettles sing,
    And earth sinks to rest
    Until next spring."

  17. It's been rather cool, but absolutely gorgeous here in north Alabama. I have spent the last two sunny days cleaning toilet paper form our yard where we were visited not once, but twice but the resident teenager's friends over the weekend! But I would rather have the toilet paper in my yard than the bright pink toilet my girlfriend discovered in her yard. The perp even planted mums in the bowl for her! Ah, the crazy antics of youth! =)

Hope you guys get everything wrapped up for the winter! It's not that far away.

  19. YEA!! I see the light at the end of the tunnel for you and John, I say you and John even though he is doing the work, but hey, someone has to supervise. ~grin~ and clean up the messes, and that is something we gals do best!!Having good weather to finish this task is a great 'Giving of Thanks"
I think having a lower electric bill is a great float your boat, we went through this last year in finding it was a faulty freezer. Ouch!! went on for months!!

As far as posting everyday, I am working on it, but am out of my comfort zone. lol. you are just way to much fun.
    I truly adore you.
    hugs,

  20. You two are really going to town with your home. It will be so cozy and cute - and save you money!

What's floating my boat today is a little Christmas baking and wrapping so I can send off a parcel to Europe that will arrive before Christmas Day. It's kind of fun to do this so early.

  23. New wiring is very exciting, especially if it will save money on those outrageous bills.
Glad to hear that your weather will cooperate as you head into the homestretch on outdoor home improvements.
Floating my boat today ... a morning spent with my sister-in-law shopping at the Habitat resale shop. They unveiled the Christmas merchandise today for the first time. It was better than the "bluelight special". Lots of vintage finds for great prices.

  24. Vee, your probably already know this --- (and I'm guessing you can do this where you're at) but since electricity has been de-regulated in some states, you can go on the open market and get your own provider now. We went from over 12c/kw hr to 8.25c/kw hr. We cut our electric bills down by 30%. You keep the same service company, but you can buy your electric wherever you want. I don't know about your state, but you can google it and find out if you guys are de-regulated. If you haven't already done so, and your state is one of those on the free market, then by all means check into it. LAst year we had 3 houses and we cut our electric expense by 1/3 - and that was alot! Now go fix that wire!

  25. Nothing doing here but I sure am enjoying this lovely weather. I guess we're getting a colder weekend here though. Are you? I hope the new wiring will help your electric bill. Take care Vee. Hugs, Pamela

  26. I don't think I've ever gotten to excited about new wiring but I can see why you are. I'm hoping to get a new ceiling fan for our living area for my birthday. We have one but it's outdated. I have a long list of updated I'd like to see get done within the next year. We'll see.

  27. Boy..it is hard to beat that. I'm not even going to try! I am so happy that your upcoming winter will be eased by a heating bill that is smaller.

I just made caramel apples ..that might make me float good =)

  28. If I were you new wiring would float my boat too. Our electric bill is rising since the de-regulation of electricity in PA. We're checking into some lower rates.....it's always something!

    Have a great day : )

  30. The air is crisp and clear with the scent of a fire in the fireplace, not mine :(
We can hear the geese overhead and the crunch of leaves beneath our feet.
Fall....my favorite time of year :)

  32. Hi Vee, I hope the weather cooperates and you and John get everything done on your house.
What's floating my boat is the prospect of having a newly remodeled bathroom before too long!
Enjoy the rest of your week!

And if this post of yours, is too long, what chance have I? :-))))))
