Lysol, Thieves, and a Cottage Porch

Warning: Do not enter this blog without Lysol! It's true, I've officially had whatever-it-is for 39 days. It's a frustrating cold/flu because just when it seems that it's on the mend, back it comes again. Must be something that I'm supposed to be learning. Anyway, I know that I am not the only one dealing with whatever-it-is so I'm curious enough to ask if you or someone you know has been likewise sidetracked this winter. Let me know! I'm hoping to submit an entry on helpful tips and comfort recipes.

Okay, on with the real entry...

Isn't this a charming space? This photo comes from an article titled The English Gardener Moves Indoors: An English Cottage in Colorado. It's located on a newsletter called Front Range Living by Niki Hayden. She writes a lot of terrific articles on home and gardening, which you should be able to access by clicking on the link provided above.

A friend called me this morning and hearing my voice decided that I was desperately in need of something called "Thieves" an essential oil made of clove, lemon, cinnamon, rosemary, and eucalyptus. It has just arrived on my door handle (I wouldn't let my friend in) with a story about the Bubonic Plague and gypsies and how gypsies weren't affected by the plague because they used this combination of oils on their feet. The mere mention of "Bubonic Plague" made me laugh. I know this whatever-it-is is baaadddddd, but that bad? Anyway, I'm willing to give anything a try. I'd go to the doctor, but both my mother and grandmother have been on a course of antibiotic and it hasn't done a thing to help.

Stay healthy, everyone!

  1. Go ahead and try your 'snake oil' treatment...you've got nothing to lose! It sounds like it will smell wonderful too, with all those yummy ingredients. So sorry you're still battling this bug. Have you ever had a flu shot? I'm not convinced they are a solution, but I'm just asking. Take care!

  2. You may not have the same thing your Mom and Grandmom have Vee.

go to the doctor... demand a swab, blood tests or xrays to get to the bottom of things.

Antibiotics don't do anything for a virus, but can be effective against infection and bacterial illnesses. Also, antibiotics are usually pretty specific and there are different types for different fungi, bacteria, infections, and so on....
First you need to pinpoint the problem... and then onward with "fixing" it.

  3. Oh, ew, ah, as I am backing my way out here I just want to say you are finding me the best home office inspirational photos. I might need to hire you to be my researcher. You have quite the eye dear!

Ok, sneaking out spraying lysol on the doorknob before I touch it...

  4. Oh you poor thing. My sis in law was telling me that she is still fighting the cold she got before Christmas. Oh I hope the snake oil treatment does the trick.

  5. I've had a cold for two weeks and it's still going fairly strong...also bursitis in my left shoulder. Waaaah! I hope you can find out what this is and take it down, Vee! The concoction your friend sent does sound like it smells wonderful...have you noticed a difference since applying it to your feet?

  6. It's worth a try, don't ya think? And I'm a firm believer in going to the dr. at the first sign of any type of cold or flu....because since I developed pneumonia last summer, I seem to develop it easier and easier. Twice now in 6 months and I'd never had it prior!!
Do take care of yourself darlin'!!

  8. My cold lasted a full two weeks and I haven't had a cold in years and when I do, it usually only lasts 4 days. It sounds like you keep reinfected your self. The one thing my husband always says is to WASH your hands often and keep them away from you eyes and nose.
39 days is a very long time though and you should probably go to the doctor.

I love all the windows around the desk. What a great place to work.

  9. Vee, sorry to hear you're still under the weather. How depressing - of course if the silly weather would hurry up and change, alot of this gunk would go with it. I hope you feel better soon. I think you need to go to the Dr., too, and get it checked out and get you meds. Try the Thieves stuff, too- it might help and it won't hurt! Vickie

  10. I love that home office! I imagine myself sitting at that desk, looking at onto a beautiful garden ... The reality is I'm looking out at swirling white stuff ~ lots of swirling white stuff! *sigh*

I caught a virus back in mid-November and just when I thought I was over it, wham! It came back. By mid-January it finally left me for good. I hope you feel better soon!
