Book Tag

Both Pat and Paula tagged me quite some time ago with a book tag.

The rules of this tag are these:

1. Link to the person who tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
2. Share seven random and/or weird book facts about yourself.
3. Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
4. Let each person know that they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

1. My degree (English) required a lot, nay, a ton of reading. I have never read as much as I read during those years, lots of classics, of course, but I still love to read. I seldom read the classics anymore, though.

2. I began reading Nancy Drew, Ruth Fielding, and Judy Bolton books at age eight. I particularly loved the Judy Bolton series because she got married. It was a romantic wedding under a double rainbow and all the bridesmaids wore a color of the rainbow. Sigh.

3. John and I read aloud to each other both morning and night. We are reading The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis in the evening. Mornings are Devotional reading and Scriptures.

4. My favorite authors are James Herriot and E.B. White. If you've ever read either of them, you'll know why!

5. There's a trail of unfinished books in the house. I can pick up a book in any room and start in where I left off without a hitch. Must be that I am too lazy to gather a book or to carry it about with me.

6. If I don't read them, I decorate with'em.

7. After years of teaching, I have lots and lots of children's books. My grands are going to thank me one day, I hope! They're already happy with their current stash.

Since it's such a busy time of year, I'm going to suggest that if you're intrigued by this book tag that you take up the challenge. Please let me know if you do because I'll want to read yours, too.

  2. I am looking at my Norton's Anthology of poetry as I speak! My home is sounding more like yours by the day.....books everywhere. I love them, and need towers "decorating" every room too! I remember readign the Bobbsey Twins when I was small. This was my first example of American lives!

  3. Book tags are always the most interesting. I love the authors you have mentioned but you forget good old Marjorie!

I'm still upset that the U.S. Post Office released a stamp in her honor and then changed the postage charges a week later. That meant that once the first batch of stamps sold out they didn't send anymore. I never got my Marjorie stamp. Sigh.

  4. Yes, Suzanne, I had to leave off so many. I love Marjorie and I love Margaret and I love Harper Lee, and I love so many that it had to be nipped. How disappointing about that stamp! There are none to be found anywhere?

  5. I love, love, love my books. I will play along with you. I wonder if Suzanne could find her stamps at usps.com in their webstore? Just a thought.

P.S. I love your new blog header!

  8. I'm a book lover too! I love that you read aloud to one another, so romantic! My family likes for me to read aloud to them. My favorite reading memory is the first year I home schooled my daughter. We woudl curl up in chairs in front of the fireplace and take turns reading paragraphs of chapter books. When she would tire she would ask me to read. One day we literally sat and read until our voices were almost gone as we were so engrossed in the story. Great tag!

  9. Thanks for sharing your reading favorites.

Books were my great escape from 'the harsh realities of my life' as a child. I laugh...because I often got in trouble for reading when I was supposed to be doing chores! I guess that's what books are...they take us to another place. I still love reading...but this blogging cuts into my 'book time'!

  10. I've been wanting to read that C.S. Lewis book. Decorating with books is a great idea, and a way to avoid them turning into clutter.

Hope you have a great day!

  11. I just finished doing your book tag. So much fun! And I paired it with a decorating idea with old books.

    I enjoy your blog.

Earlier I forgot to tell you thank you for the darling badge!

  13. I'll take part, perhaps next week when I'm not so busy (after this weekend things should calm down at home).

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Nancy Drew, Trixie Beldon, and the Annette books!

  14. Thanks for doing the tag Vee!

I read all the "Cherry Ames" nurse adventure books when I was 8 or 9. That lead me to want to become an RN!

I also read a lot more of the classics when I was young. I really would like to revisit some of them and see if being older will change my perspective.

You are so right about your grandchildren loving your children's book collection one day! I can't wait to share my collection soemday with mine :-)

  15. sewing room ready, how well you deserve it with all your lovely sewing.
Enjoyed reading your meme. How nice that you and John read to each other. Now Alan would do just about everything but reading to each other, that I cannot imagine.

My you have your Christmas tree up and decorated. Is it that time of year already!

  16. I started reading Nancy Drew about the same age...the very first book I ever read was The Boxcar Children, when I was five. Oddly enough I have just bought an older copy of the Screwtape Letters to reread...I read it in High School...it was required reading...I could live quite happily in a Library! Great post

  17. We love books, too! We both love to read, but that does't happen much this time of year. Love to decorate with them, too.
We'll have to see if we can get the hubbies to read to us!

  18. Herriot and E.B. White are my favorite writers too! I started reading the Trixie Belden Books and then Nancy Drew in elementary school. Children today who are growing up with so much technology, television and computer games, are deprived of developing their imagination! So sad.

  19. Oh, I do love books, and Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden were my first real "loves" when it came to reading. I am so glad you mentioned Screwtape Letters because I had intended to get that out for my son who's a senior in HS to read before he goes off to college. Thanks for your care and concern... feeling a bit better today, though you'd not know it to hear me talk. Oh, and please pass the tea and cranberry muffin through the computer!

    Blessings,
    Christi
