Sneak Peek

It's all winding to a close after a year and a half or more. Oh there are one or two leavings to weave into the whole, though they can be done whenever. (My wish would be for sooner; John's on a completely different time frame.) We hope to have the driveway done at some point as it's in rough shape from having been dug up to run electrical wiring underground to the house. Yes, yes, little things.

It's lovely to see a project pull together. Yesterday was so warm and pleasant that I asked John if he minded if I sat out there watching. I come from a long line of folks who do not like to be watched. John is much more obliging.

Do you mind being watched while you work?

  1. I get totally rattled if somebody is watching me and I know it. I can be typing along and when somebody appears over my back, it's mistake after mistake. Wonder what that is. Besides an obvious problem of no self confidence.

  2. Ohhhhhh, it will soon be completely lovely.... -happy sigh-

Watch me? Proceed at your own peril!!! -chuckle- No! No! No! Do I like to be watched, doing something? Nooooooo!

Oh and Re: my post this morning... It is not a story. These things happened to my oldest 'Grand' and to her Mother. I trust them completely, to be telling the truth of what they saw/heard happen, in that old house.

  3. Good morning! Sounds crazy but I really had to think about this one... I guess I don't mind. But I don't think it has really come up that often. I think most of the time I am working (dishes, laundry, scrubbing toilets, sewing etc.) people were more likely to hide least that be asked to join in, haha. I on the other hand, LOVE to sit and watch hubby work on projects, and he usually enjoys the company.. Have a good week-end!

  4. How exciting to see it all come together! The sneak peek looks really nice. I am looking forward to the full reveal.
How well I understand not liking to be watched. I come from that line too.

  5. Nope not a fan of being watched...but, I do enjoy watching my hubby while he builds things around our home. He doesn't mind! Everything is looking great!

  6. Oh no, don't watch me while I'm working! My hubby doesn't mind either as long as the person isn't nattering at him.
    Garage is looking good.

  7. Re: My post and comments. (And I commented this there, too...) NO, you were not saying that they were lying. It's just that I don't know what the *correct* word is, for something like that, which happened to them....

    Perhaps, *happenings*? :-)

  8. I'm excited! How fun it's going to be when we get to see a photo of the completed garage AND a photo of the garage and house together. Hope you can share a before and after!

I can't walk and chew gum at the same time and definitely can't talk and work at the same time. I know that I couln't let someone watch me work without feeling the need to visit. Really, I know from experience and it doesn't work. My daughter-in-law and I ruined 3 strawberry pies trying to work together, but we had lots of laughter!

  10. It depends on what I am doing...sometimes it can feel unnerving! But I guess with 6 kids I have become used to people watching me!

    So glad it's almost over!

  11. Hi Vee :) The scalloped trim is going to look so wonderful when it's completed. I don't care for people watching me work when I'm doing something that I have little experience with :) Anyway, have a good weekend!

    Hugs,
    Stephanie
By the way, I fixed the comments on my blog - hopefully it fixed the problem.

  12. So glad the weather is cooperating with you. As for how I feel about being watched while working? Depends on whether it is something that I am comfortable doing. I don't mind if I don't have to think too much while knowing that I am being observed.

  13. The garage is looking fabulous! I absolutely love the new window!

Hmmmm...being watched. Have I told you that our property adjoins that of Ron's brother which adjoins that of his sister which adjoins that of his mother? And that it is mostly good? Notable exception being that feeling of being watched from time to time. (And knowing that it's not just a "feeling.")

Yes, I'm afraid that being watched makes me nervous.

  14. I think there is some commradity---I never can spell that word in sitting with someone while they work. It's nice company for the worker, conversation can happen, and helps the time pass. I would think John would be thrilled his beloved wanted to spend the time with him!

  15. Hmmm. I hadn't ever really thought about it...but I think I prefer someone to check out the job once it's done...rather than watching while it is being done! But company while working outdoors on a lovely day is always a good thing!

Things are looking great over there. I'd love to pop over and see it in person...maybe with coffee in hand...maybe around 11:00 o'clock. :)

  16. I had to get over being watched while I work when I stared doing demonstrations at trade shows. Teaching others to paint also helped me to get over it.

  17. I love to watch.....haven't thought much about being watched though! I do - or I DID - teach art classes and that's all about watching ME (the TEACHER!) and then proceeding on to doing what you see. In that case I'm OK with it. I like to watch and learn so I am good with being watched. How about YOU? Do YOU like being watched?

Also I love being able to visit via comments knowing what your voice sounds like!! I have such little 'free' time anymore to flit around BlogLand but when I do I try to come over to YOUR place to see how you and John are doing and what you're up to! Happy FALL weekend to you, my dear!!

  18. I love your project, I love seeing projects worked on and completed. Last night I had the delight of having pictures text to me from my boys, one son is redoing the kitchen of the other son's first house...both so excited to see the progress.

NO! please don't watch me...give me a hand or go away!! LOL

  19. The project is coming along nicely, thanks for the update. as for being watched, my mother is 81 and frequently asks for my help with her computer. She views me from a distance of about 2 inches away asking about everything I'm doing. Need I say more. ~ Abby

  20. It is looking real good over there, Vee. John is a trooper. Our work is done till next year. Not complete just done because of weather and time. We are looking at putting in a driveway, too. As far as your question goes. NO I do not like being watched while I work...

  21. I don't like to be watched - it makes me go all 'thumbs'. The project is coming along at your place and looking REALLY good!

  22. Hi Vee, the scalloped edge is just such the perfect detail and I can wait to see the finished project! I guess because I teach I'm use to being watched and got over feeling self-conscious, but for a long time it felt weird. XOXO

  23. Usually when I have people over, they will watch me cook. Doesn't really bother me too much, except, they are so close I trip over their feet!! :) xo

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ha - it's not the watching that I mind it's the questions/suggestions that come with the watching:)

    It's almost finished!!!

  25. I don't like to be watched most of the time. Especially by the perfectionists I have lived with... no names or initials.

Oh, Vee... I clarified on my blog post. The temporary blindness was caused by the laser surgery. The Dr. said it is brighter than the sun!

Our long term weather forecast is for Indian Summer next week!

  26. I only like to be watched when I am showing someone how to do something (like teaching my girls some cooking tips), otherwise I feel nervous!

Your garage project is looking great. Since I am a new follower, I'm not sure what you had planned. Hope you show before and afters!

    Have a great weekend, Vee!

    XO,
    Jane

  27. I really hate to be watched while I am doing something.

I am glad your work is progressing nicely.

  28. Hi Vee, Lovely to see everything coming together, I don't mind being watched while I work. We are having a lovely day with strong breezes and warm sunshine. Wishing you both a nice weekend. Mildred

  29. I know you are going to love having your garage finished. Just like I'll love having our bathroom finished...if we ever get started. Just told hubby this week that is it isn't done before Christmas, it will be a very cold winter for real. :)
No, I don't like being watched while working or anything else for that matter!
    Have a great weekend!

  30. This is going to be the most loveliest of garages. It is looking so awesome, Vee. Your man is doing such a good job...and he LOOKS good while he's doing it. :))

Noooooo, I do not like being watched. Now, if it's something that I really KNOW what I'm doing, I don't really mind someone watching..it's when I am doing something I know is probably going to turn into a royal mess, I don't want NOBODY around. :))

    ReplyDelete
  31. I know how good it feels to get a big project done!!! : )
I don't mind people watching me work - not someone I know anyway. Probably would be uncomfortable if I didn't know the person.

  32. It's nice to be able to see the end isn't it. It's looking really great! My driveway needs to be redone just because it's old and crumbly but the estimates I got last year have made me not mind it so much :)

  33. Vee
Oh, I see John is doing the scallops-I was hoping you would!
No, I do not want to be watched while I'm working. John's a good sport for not minding, for sure.

  34. It's going to look so great! Patience is a hard thing to practice at a time like this.

I do not like being watched if I'm doing someting new, figuring something out and trying to wing it. But if I'm cooking or doing something that I'm sure of, I don't mind if people watch. Is this a pride thing? Oh dear, I think it might be.

  35. You are so lucky to have a hubby who is handy...and doesn't mind being watched ;) It really looks great!

  36. Oh, it's almost done! I hope the rain that is coming didn't catch you. My hubby loves when I sit and watch him work. He enjoys my company and we chat while he works or I help in some way fetching this or that for him. Another boring weekend for me and rain to boot! I can't even get out to do anything outdoors. ;{ Are you in for rain too?

  37. I don't mind people watching while I do stuff but I do hate it when they supervise and tell me what I am doing wrong.

  38. Hi Vee
As I'm new to your blog I probably need to look back through your posts - but I can see a lovely new garage and what looks like accommodation above - or your craft/come what may room perhaps?! It all looks tickety boo!

I never used to mind someone looking over my shoulder - not so much now as I get more dithery!! My husband on the other hand doesn't do 'on-lookers' only 'doers' who get stuck in and help!!! We're all different.

It's already Saturday afternoon in New Zealand where I am!
    Happy weekend to you!
    Shane ♥

  39. I'm trying so hard to catch up..... you always have so many interesting thoughts and pictures, and I'm so far behind.
    Your pictures are beautiful....

No! I can't stand for someone (anyone) to be watching over my work. Drives me crazy!! John is a good man and he has my sympathy.....

    ReplyDelete
  40. John is amazing and has accomplished so much! Your garage looks lovely. Perhaps if John came over to my house and spiffed it up a little I'd sell it faster..lol..can you loan him out for the weekend, Vee?

I don't mind being watched as long as the person watching doesn't try to give me instructions on how to do it better ;)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I hate being watched when working most times, except when cooking or baking - guess I have been "teaching" peeps so many years that I am used to it.

Your amazing garage transformation is looking awesome, Vee and I am SO happy for you and your DH John!!!!!

  42. I do NOT like to be watched while I work! Ignore me, please! John's hard work is really paying off. God bless him for all of his efforts.

  43. Guess it depends on who is watching.
    Looking forward to a reveal!
