Well that was fun! I enjoyed reading all the stories about our verbal tangles from my last post. Thank you for sharing them.
This is the story of our rainy Monday so far...
The sleeping cat and dog's little snores are making me so sleepy myself that I may join them for a nap any second now.
My weekend thrifting netted me this treasure, as if I don't have enough of my own ancestors about the place. ;> (Although it appears that she is on a plate, this is actually a photograph created for those oval frames one sees in old homes or flea markets. They were popular in the early 1900s. Emily is missing her frame. Perhaps I'll be able to find one someday. No, I do not know anything about Emily nor even that her name is Emily. She just looks like an Emily to me.)
Speaking of ancestors, I updated the post on *Alice* for those who would like to know where I'm leaving that. I am so not going to be anyone's favorite person. : {
Have a great Monday! (I'm off to take a nap or box up some memories.)
Do you know the story behind this lovely woman? She looks fascinating. I enjoyed your story and change of view about Alice. We all have many layers, don't we? I may have to let some of the skeletons out of our family closet! :-)
ReplyDelete"Now I know that she had many more layers than my own grandmother could have been aware or wished to be aware having her own sense of things."
ReplyDeleteUnderstood, how you don't want to pass on the nasty stories told to you, by your maternal grandmother. [Nan, yes?]
But one question, which seems not too intrusive. How do you NOW know that Alice had many more layers than...? You found more information, beyond Nan's unpleasant stories?
Or was all this, deduced from Nan's stories?
Let's see... If Alice had a wonderful voice... And her husband pined away for her... Betcha' she left him and family, and went off to be on the stage, perhaps? :-)
We had storms yesterday, and I was curled up like these two darlings, enjoy your nap with them.
ReplyDeleteVery wise decision about Alice. Maybe the time is not right.
Be blessed today while boxing those memories, I will be thinking of you.
Hugs,
Sue

ReplyDeleteYou have probably figured it out, but my fingers clicked twice and that is why I deleted my comment.
ReplyDeleteJust ole' butter fingers here!
Sue
I need to go read about Alice.
ReplyDeleteI am feeling a bit sleepy myself. Weekends do that to me. We had a lovely family visiting here last evening. It was good to catch up with them.
It rained and rained here yesterday and then we woke up to just a powdery coating of snow.
Love covers a multitude of sins. That's the line that came to me as I read your post about Alice. Your choice is best.
ReplyDeleteI think our world thrives on the ugly and salacious - and heaven knows, there's enough of it around. Let's dwell instead on the beautiful, the lovely....
Looks like a quiet, snoozy day at your place. Enjoy! Is the snow disappearing?
There are always many sides to the same story.
ReplyDeleteOur rainy yesterday has turned into a beautiful sunny day today.
Raining here too.."rainy days and Mondays"..come back to my post - I "think" I got the photos fixed :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the woman!
Hi Vee!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tribute to "Alice". It sure made me stop and think about some of the stories I have heard about my step-great-grandmother; most of them are not very nice!! Alice sounds like a lovely lady! I really think that most people have more than one layer...although it's hard to find them after they have passed - that's why those letters are so valuable! Thank you for sharing!
Hugs,
Barb
P.S. Auntie always makes me think and dig a little deeper... ;0)
Now there's a nicer side of Alice...so glad you discovered it!
ReplyDeleteA rainy day? Cook some soup...and curl up with a good book. Sounds like Monday!
Have a great day, whether napping or boxing up memories.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Alice is a character! Take a nap if you want! What a great thing to do for yourself!
ReplyDeleteOh I am hoping for some rain here to just slow us down a little and welcome in the spring...this does look so restful
ReplyDeleteI read the rest of Alice's story and I agree it is better to dwell on her pleasant atributes and leave it at that.
ReplyDeleteThis plate portrait you found is beautiful! Don't you wish you knew the story of the woman in it?
Enjoy the rest of a quiet day!
We had rain all day yesterday. I sat by the fire with a cappuchino and caught up on some magazines.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Penny
I love the lady on the plate and that you rescued her and gave her a good home.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the updated info about Alice. You do have me wondering about Emily though......
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your nap!!
I admire your decision to leave us with a few of Alice's more endearing traits.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the animals have the right idea for a rainy day. Hope you were able to join them for a while.
Our raindrops just turned into giant snowflakes. Beautiful in December, they loose their luster in March:(
ReplyDeleteWe don't have rain here, but got a serious load of snow this past Sunday, bout 12 inches. Will it never end?
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of "Emily." She does look like an Emily, I agree.
Have a happy Tuesday,
Niki
I just read your update on Alice and loved that she had a beautiful side to her. Family relationships are so complex and I'm so glad you were able to see a deeper layer than what you had been told. The letters sound fascinating.
ReplyDeleteNO rain here in south Texas..... we need it!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour sweet animals have the right idea, I hope you captured a nap too.
I always feel a bit sad when there's a family photo in a store.... seems like family should have it.
However, you now have this beautiful photo.... a good home.
Hugs,
Rain? Not here. Snow instead and lots of it! Would have gladly curled up like your kitties to pass the day away. About Alice. I'm reminded of something my Great Aunt Betty would say about never speaking ill of the dead! Everyone has a story and some of them are best laid to rest. ~Kathy
ReplyDeleteSpring sprung here in Ireland, pity I have to been in the office most of the day. Love the plate/photo of "Emily". Hugs, Margie.
ReplyDeleteAh, early spring rain. Tornados last week, and now we are under a flood warning for the second time in four days. You have to love spring.
ReplyDeleteThe pics of your kitty and pup make are very encouraging in making the case for a nap! I love the picture you found at the market. The best part of not knowing who it is, is that you can make up any story that you want!
The ending to Alice's story is sad, but lovely. There is something so romantic about a husband pining away for his wife.
Hope you have a wonderful week. Maybe your rain will move out and the sun will make it brighter.
