A Haven for Vee

Decidedly December

Here it is December already! What happened to that extra week? I've only just started on decorating. So much left to do! If you would stop doing so many interesting things, I'm sure that I could pay better attention. How're you doing on the decorating? Have you begun?

Here's what I have done so far...

~kitchen window with Friendly Village tea cups~

I've got my work cut out for me or, at best, plenty of tweaking to do. All that and I've vowed to keep it simple this year. Yes, right.

Have a lovely weekend...

  1. Your home is looking very festive, Vee. I have a Friendly Village platter (with the church) that belonged to my Grandma. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  3. I love your hanging cups. Is that snow on the ground? I am still unpacking. Trying to cram too many things into a smaller space. No decorating for me yet.

  4. Well there's something you have that I envy...a window sill and I like the display of teacups. I do have one sill over the kitchen sink but hubby had to build it on for me. Our snow may be gone after the weekend because it is supposed to go up to 52 F tomorrow.

  5. Good morning! Love your windows sill! And the view out of it as well. Getting the tree up today will be the end of it over here. Of course we have been working on it for weeks, ; ) Enjoy your week-end!

  6. Very pretty... And you know what I have done, since it's all I keep taking little pics of, and posting. ,-)

Vee; "I've got my work cut out for me" Vee; "...vowed to keep it simple this year."
Mmmmm, isn't that one of those *can't-be-both-at-the-same-time* things??? Hmmmmm....

  9. I love that hanging branch in your kitchen window! What a neat idea! I finally procrastinated long enough and started decorating yesterday. Actually, I got sick and tired of photo editing. LOL, so with a choice of two things I didn't want to do, I chose the one that caused me the least amount of pain!

I am keeping it super simple this year. I put out a few Santas yesterday (about 2 dozen out of over 200), Mr. Jim bought a poinsettia at the grocery store, and I put our candle lights in the windows. The feather trees are going up today. We're not putting up any big trees, much to the disappointment of our neighbors. I told them to get over it, LOL.

Then it's back to photo editing. (That's my punishment for taking about 10,000 photos in the past 5 months!)

  10. It's looking very nice over there so far. The kitchen window is decorated so nicely ~ calm and pretty. The red and white lampshade is the perfect touch.
I am hoping to finish up my decorating this weekend. I had good intentions for simpler, but ... hmmmmm. Good luck to you with getting it all done and keeping it simple.

  11. You have snow! We had a dusting Thursday night. Barely there. Love your cups hanging on the branch in the window. Enjoy the weekend. It's cold here today. again. Hugs, Pam

  12. No snow here, but plenty of rain!
Your window looks so pretty. I haven't done a jot of decorating yet - not even a wreath on the door. Perhaps today.....

  13. I have been keeping it simple for several years now. When the grands come they always say GMM where is this and where is that? Every year I give those things away to them but only as they get their own homes or apartments. If they are living at home their parents do not want more stuff. I always love what you do. Merry Christmas preparations Vee.

  14. I don't do much decorating. Just a small Christmas tree and few other things. Takes about 10 minutes.

    Your decorations look very nice.

  15. I've hung christmas lights along the back door, china cabinet, and entertainment center for the boys. My youngest (who is just learning his words) kept saying "Wow!" the whole time and wanted to touch the lights. It was fun. We like going for walks in the neighborhood and looking at lights as well. Its nice outdoor family time.
I agree with the above comments that your window display is gorgeous and inviting. I also noticed the first picture did not have snow and the second picture did.... did it only snow on one side of your house? :-) j/k but I am a bit confused since I am a snow "virgin" (hee he) help me understand.

  16. Do you have snow on the ground? I love what you've done so far! :0)
I've done some. I'm not going to do everything I've done in the past. The tree will go up next weekend. Happy December to you!

  17. I didn't think I'd even do Christmas decorating this year because of the trade show I attend in January got moved from the end to almost the beginning and I've just got too much to do. However, my grandson and his dad want to come for Christmas and I promised my daughter to always make it a wonderful experience for him like it was for her, so after I get things shipped off on Thursday, the decorating and baking will begin...and probably a few all-nighters! I love your simplicity and that fits my taste to a "T". XOXO

  18. We are all set, including the garlands outside!

I always love your window, and think of how many happy hours you must spend there!

Just do what pleases you and John and the grands!

I recently decorated at my parents...simple woodland type garlands, some small trees...wintery and she can leave it all up as long as she likes! Thankfully she loved it!

    Happy Weekend!

  19. All three trees are up (yes, three ... I say I have one for each god-child and each cat!) One is completely decorated, one is almost done and the third is about a 1/4 done. I'm tired! But it is fun and sure gets the spirit going. Listening to Christmas music helps, too. I wonder why I don't listen to Christmas music all year ... inspirational! :D :D

  20. I've got the music on, the vacuum cleaner is ready to go, the poinsettia is placed, the outdoor window boxes and front porch are decorated, and now I'm having a quick peek at blogdom land - oops better shut down my computer and get at it!!!! Let's see how far I get today. Your's so far looks great!!!

  21. Love your window, my friend. I consider window dressing for Christmas, kind of a premier of decorating, for want of a better way to say it. And you have snow? !!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Do I see snow out your window? We had a dusting about 2 wks ago, but that's long gone. Hoping it holds off for a bit longer. I am trying to do a bit of decorating today as well. Just took a break to check out a few blogs and peeking at a Hallmark Christmas movie. Might be awhile getting back to decorating! Have a great day! Thanks again for your knowledge!

  23. Snow on the ground! Wow. It's nearly 80 degrees here today! Doesn't even feel like Christmas - I've been baby-showering all day but I'm going to try to find where I put some of my Christmas decor last year and get that out this afternoon. Your house looks so festive! The lady hosting the baby shower had her house and halls "decked", and it really put me in a holiday mood - it was great!

  24. Is that snow?!! I wish it would hurry up and get cold here. It would feel more seasonal. Love the hanging cups and the tin that says "joy".

  25. 80 degrees here today...knee deep in a garage sale and Christmas is the last thing on my mind today. :)
No decorating around my place this year.
I love your window...looks sooo cute.

  26. I'd say you are doing great! Love-love-love the header, the tree is very beautiful and that sweet little face of a grand.....ooooo so precious! xo

  27. Your home is starting to look very festive. The teacups hanging in the window are so pretty. Here, the rain is pouring down and it's been dark all day long.
Yesterday I set up the Nativity scene, then went on to decorate the mantel and the piano. I figured since I had to take everything off to dust anyway, why not put up the Christmas decor? And so it goes. Today I'm baking. I love Christmas.

  28. I went to Bethlehem today.....yes, really! Bethlehem, PA! :) I enjoyed the Christkindlmarkt there but did not buy one thing. I think packing box after box has made me realize i ahve enough stuff for my lifetime..lol

I see your Christmas cactus is beginning to bloom, and I love your kitchen window!

    1. Ahhh, it's not blooming so well, though I am grateful it is blooming at all for it is not a Christmas cactus. It is an Easter cactus. No kidding!

  29. Your decorating is looking beautiful, Vee. I always enjoy your stick by the window all the pretty ways you present it.

No Christmas decorating here yet. We went from Thanksgiving to a baby shower to a family birthday. It will be a week or so before I catch up with myself!

    Enjoy the holiday!

  30. Ha, I always say I'm keeping it simple too, but Once the box comes out with all those sweet decorations it's hard not to find a place for them.
Your way ahead of me Vee. Your home is looking full of holiday cheer already!

  31. I think my 'to do' list will get pared down as Christmas approaches...since not much has been ticked off as yet! It doesn't help when I leave town for a good part of the week. The outside is about done...the inside is 1/2 decked out. The baking has not yet begun...and some sewing projects are waiting to be started. But I'm singing...'give me a silent night':)

  32. you're off to a great start! i'm keeping it very
simple. saying to myself, "whatever you put
out, you have to put back up!"

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes I vowed to keep it simple too. Ha ha ha. Once one starts one cannot stop. Thanks for the visit and all your help with the photo thingy.

  34. Simple is often better! I'm determined to TRY that this year. I've never actually DONE it before!!
It's in the 80's here today and LD is outside mowing leaves and blowing out gutters. Doesn't FEEL 'Christmasy' yet! But it will later on today, I'm sure! We're meeting up with my oldest daughter and going to look at lights in Dallas. I will need to remember to take my camera!

  35. I'm done with decorating though I don't do a whole lot. I'll be doing some baking this week. I haven't done Christmas cards the last couple of years. I've missed it so will start again this year - I'll get that started this week too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes that extra week sure did fly by! I love the little scene in the jar sitting beside Santa!!

    Enjoy your week!
