Gently Used Cookbook Winner, Etc.

Here's the picture story. By now, you know how much I love this format. ☺

the winner

And the winner of one gently used Mennonite Girls Can Cook cookbook is Sheila at Starshine Through My Windows! {Congratulations, Sheila! I'll have it off to you in the morning's mail.} I have to move quickly because Sheila lives on a farm in northern Alberta and is looking forward to heading out on a trip to Italy just as soon as the planting season is accomplished. Do visit her lovely blog and congratulate her on her win.  Edited to Add: Oops, Sheila. I can't find a listed email for you. Please email me (my addy is in my profile) with your information.

In other news, work on the house has commenced and the carpenter is a very busy man. He's adding more insulation on the main part of the house as he goes. Pretty soon, he's making a 180° turn and siding the addition with all that typar first.

I've decided to color my hair. If the house can get a new color and styling, surely I'm due. It's some sort of color rinse that my hairdresser gently suggested when I was there last week. She said my natural color is much too harsh for this old face. Hmmm... I might not have believed her, but yesterday my email arrived from 31 Days to a Better You from Bella Mella. You'll never guess the topic...*hair color with examples*! Big party this weekend and I've got a lot of tips to follow. I really enjoyed this series. Okay, gotta run, got a few little things to tend to...eyebrows, lighter lipstick, maybe even a mustache...ai yi yi.

Have a blessed day!

  4. Congratulations to the winner!

Congratulations to John, on his gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood work!

Congratulations to you, for heeding your beautician's advice on hair coloring. 'Cause if you notice around you, toooooooo dark (obviously) colored hair, does not look natural.

Don't want to "bite the bullet" and let it go gray hu? Your Mother had beautiful hair. You would too, I'm sure. Oh I know! No! No! No! You are not ready to do that yet!!! -grin-

But when one's husband is gray, does anyone *believe* that the wife, is still wearing her totally au natural hair color? :-)

Wow! Big weekend party! Sounds like fun! Enjoy the preparations! :-)

  5. Thank you Vee - what a wonderful way to start my early morning on the farm. When I clicked on your blog in response to your request, I was just thinking how nice - she's an early riser too...I wonder what's new with Vee. I think it's wonderful that you have your natural hair color and it looks great! I'll be emailing you now.

  6. Congratulations to the winner. I went to her blog and love it!

I color my hair - started turning gray at 16 so it's been many, many years of supporting the sales of hair color. Hope you'll share a picture with us.

Love John's patriotic ladder! I have the impression that John is happiest when he's busy. You two are so perfect together.

  7. Ahh yes, us gently used gals need a little color once in a while, too...
Have a good day and a fun weekend! Congrats to Sheila!

  8. Yay, Sheila! And I love that you write every name out on paper...in your lovely script...and have your trusty assistant do the honours. I took the lazy way out...and used the random number generator.

You have me smiling...about changing the colours on the house and the hair. My hair gets coloured quite regularly...though the colour always stays the same. I'm not much for getting too wild and crazy!

So...do we have to wait to hear what the big party is all about? Now you have me curious.

  10. I can't wait to see this rinse! I love the siding redo... my mom is doing this, too. She likes to side a wall, stop, pay for it, then do another wall, stop, pay for it. Thank goodness the carpenter loves her!

  11. Congratulations to Sheila!!

Can't wait to see your mini makeover....you are going to show us, won't you?

Hope it isn't as hot there as it is here or I just feel bad for John out there working so hard. The results are going to be wonderful.

Oh Vee you sweet soul. I love the way you write out the names. ..and isn't it fun that the book is making a full Canadian to US to Canadian round trip. Very fun.
You are already a beautiful lady but I can't wait to see what the hairdresser and makeup gal does with you.

  15. Love your new header photos. You seem to be in an all-around "let's shake it up a little" kind of mood lately! Love that, lady! It'll keep ya young! Can't wait to see all your fun "after" photos!

  16. Congratulations to Sheila. How fun to involve John in the choosing.

Makeovers are happening all around your place. Enjoy the process! My hair color is from a box and I always think I look younger and fresher after I've done the deed. Maybe it's psychological, but I don't really care.

    What will you be celebrating?

  17. Congratulations to the winner!

I have my hair colored (hi-lighted), and I don't care if anyone likes it or not. It makes me feel better and perkier.

Have fun at your party this weekend!

  18. Let's see, I think I have a few questions to answer and I keep forgetting my promise that I will indeed answer questions in comments.

    1. I have never colored my hair. Oh not quite true, when I was a teen, I'd put a henna rinse on it.

    2. I have a lot of gray hair and hope not to cover it up. I can't wait for my hair to go gray. It's just taking it years and years. (My mother was nearly completely gray by the time she was 36. My father would not allow her to color it. I know. My sister is like my mother and she colored her hair for years finally giving it up about five years ago. She has beautiful white, white hair. I'd love that color, too. I could be a legitimate blond. :D ) In the meantime, my not gray hair gets darker and darker until it looks like a mud pie hanging out on my head.

    3. Gotta watch the clock here as my appointment's coming up.

    4. I don't know if I'll show you or not. Depends on what I think of it.

    5. The party is in celebration of a 50th wedding anniversary. My kind of party!

    6. My husband is a classy, sophisticated looking guy when he's all dressed up. I look like his dowdy sidekick. Besides, he's a decade older than I. Guess that I am not quite ready to join him in his decade yet.

    7. Thanks for all the true confessions. I feel braver every minute!

  19. I have coloured my hair (myself) for many, many years now...I can't even remember what its original colour was now!!

Unfortunately, I know what its colour is now...grey! So I think I'll just keep colouring on!

  20. It'd be nice to see the new softer you!

Congrats to Sheila - lucky girl!

Hope your party is a blast, Vee.

Psssst - oh, and I've been highlighting my hair since I was a teen - now it's getting natural highlights - just not the right color!

  21. What a lotta renovating going on at your place... :)

  22. O, I love it when work is being done on my house. Bet you are so excited to have this all finished.

Congratulations to the winner...going right over to tell her.

You are already so pretty (I love your new profile photo...I need to change mine)so you don't have much to do to get "all prettied up"...

    I LOVE weekend parties!!

  23. Well I'm due for a highlight. No grey here yet, but my color is a dark blonde and I prefer a lighter blonde.

The party sounds wonderful - yes the best kind to celebrate!

  24. I came back to read your answers to the questions. 50 years is indeed something to celebrate!

Cow pie on top of your head? I don't think so. You're lovely.

  25. Behind times. Your house is going to look really nice. A party. 50 years is worth celebrating.

Hair coloring. Normally, I'm not really for it but, there are stages that need to be "eased". I use colored shampoo because my hair is at that dull stage. I tried lightening my hair when I was in high school. Well, between the lightener, sun, and the chlorine from swimming everyday, my hair had lovely green cast to it.

  26. (PS: When my profile picture was taken, my hair was naturally this color of red.)

  27. Congrats to the book winner!

And what fun to read over that e-mail from Bella Mella.

Had a good chuckle at your parting words.... mmmm...I best go check on a few things too.... ai yi yi! LOL

ENJOY the new makeover.... hope you found some lovely things for your wardrobe today.

Wishing you glimpses of heaven in unexpected places...even in mirrors in the backyard!

  28. Congratulations to Shelia, though I had my heart set on that book,~grin~Oh! well, maybe next time.

So glad the weather is cooperating with the work on the house, and I am looking forward to seeing your new look! I too went this week for color and cut, should have taken a before and after. It always helps when this old barn gets a new paint job.
